Making this Nest of Hungry Baby Chicks from Amanda Formaro couldn't be easier! All that's needed are simple materials found around the house. A cute, cuddly and fun activity for kids!

Nest of Hungry Baby Chicks

Materials:

  • Styrofoam bowl
  • Brown acrylic paint
  • Brown craft foam
  • 4 egg cup halves from a recycled egg carton
  • White acrylic paint
  • 8 yellow pom poms
  • Scrap of orange felt
  • Red Sharpie marker
  • 8 small wiggle eyes (8 mm)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Paint brush

Instructions:

  1. Paint the styrofoam bowl brown and let dry. Repeat with another coat and set aside to dry completely.

  2. If using cardboard egg carton, paint both sides of 4 egg cups with white acrylic paint. Set aside to dry. If you use white styrofoam egg cups they will not require painting.

  3. Cut brown craft foam into long thin strips. Hot glue to the inside of the styrofoam bowl so that it sticks out the side like twigs in a nest.

  4. Hot glue one yellow pom pom into one egg cup. Repeat for three more egg cups, making a total of four.

  5. On the remaining four yellow pom poms, glue two wiggle eyes on each one.

  6. Cut 4 small squares from the orange felt. Use red Sharpie to color a tongue in the center of each orange square. Position below the wiggle eyes in a diamond shape to represent an open beak and glue in place.

  7. Take the four egg cups with pom poms in them and glue them to the bottom of the bowl. Glue the chick heads to the pom poms that are in the egg cups. You now have four hungry chicks!
