Artichoke Stamp Placemat

An artichoke makes an unexpected but lovely stamp for natural themed place mats. Colors of copper and moss green go together wonderfully in this craft project from Tiffany Windsor of Inspired at Home.

Materials:

• Artichoke
• Sharp knife
• Placemat – beige
• Craft foam
• Foam board
• Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue™
• Scissors
• Paper towels (for practicing)
• Pinking shears - optional
• Acrylic paint – copper, gold, green, moss green
• Brush - liner
• Fern Stamp Pattern

Instructions:

Cut approximately 2” from top of artichoke. Gently pull leaves apart to enlarge and open for better stamp design.

Transfer leaf pattern to craft foam. Cut along pattern line with scissors. Optional: to add a more decorative edge, cut along edge with pinking shears.
Glue foam leaf to foam board. Set aside to dry.

Lay paper towel on work surface. Brush gold paint on artichoke. Do not overload paint. For highlights, brush copper paint on artichoke in random areas. Test stamp on paper towel. Repeat practicing until desired results are achieved.

Re-apply paint and stamp on corner of placemat. Re-apply paint for each stamped image.

Brush green and moss green paint on fern stamp. For highlights, brush copper paint in random areas. Test stamp on paper towel.

Re-apply paint and stamp on paper towel. Dip liner brush in copper paint and draw in leaf veins. Let paint dry.
 

Tiffany’s Designer Tip: This stamped project looks pretty in metallics but get creative and change up the look of your designs with other color combinations. Also, real leaves and fern create great stamped images so change it up and make it your own!
