Grow your own grass without being out in the cold. Kathleen George teaches us how to build this grass planter for inside your home.

Materials:

  • STYROFOAM™ Brand Foam:
    • Sheet, 36" x 12" x 1" or 36" x 12" x 1/2"
  • Iron Graphite Texture Fierro™ Medium by DecoArt®
  • Faux grass or desired greenery
  • Serrated knife
  • Candle stub or paraffin
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Toothpicks
  • Water basin
  • Paper towels
  • Putty knife, 1"
  • Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks
  • Thick, white craft glue

Note: Measurements given are for a container measuring 22" long, 4" wide and 3" tall.

Steps:

  1. Using a pencil and ruler, mark the following pieces on the foam sheet: (2) 22" x 3"; (2) 4" x 3"; and (1) 22" x 4". Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin and cut out marked pieces. Smooth cut edges with fingertips.

  2. Place 22" x 4" piece on flat surface; this will be your base. Using glue and toothpicks, attach four sides to base.

  3. Use putty knife to spread even coat of texture medium onto top and sides of foam planter. Let dry completely.

  4. If necessary, cut faux grass to fit container. Use glue gun to glue grass in planter. Hint: Extra foam pieces can be used to fill container, if needed.
