I didn’t really plan on making this lampshade today, but I was cleaning my craft room and my scrap ribbon bin was starting to overflow. If you’re anything like me, then you save every little scrap, button, swatch, or diddle you can get your hands on. It’s a habit I have never been able break! Well, in the case of today, it worked well for me. This lampshade will match any room because lets face it, if I had a kitchen sink to glue on it, I probably would have.

Scrap Ribbon Lampshade

Materials:

  • Tons of scraps of ribbon that are at least the length of the lampshade you want to cover
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Lampshade in need of some crafty lovin’
  • Braided trim for the top and bottom of shade.

Note: I like using braided trims or more flexible trims for the top and bottom edges of lampshades because they conform to the shape much more easily. Using ribbon can get very tricky and honestly, I’m just not that good at it………yet.

Instructions:

  1. Start at the top of your lampshade and using a very thin line of hot glue across the rim, attach one piece of ribbon to the top edge.

  2. Stretch the ribbon down and glue it on the bottom edge. You do not have to apply glue all the way down, just on the top and bottom edges. I tried it both ways and it works better this way.

  3. Starting at the top of the shade again, overlap the ribbon a bit and take it straight down to the bottom of the shade and glue it to the bottom rim.

  4. You’re getting the hang of it now!

  5. Continue this until you’ve gone all the way around the shade.

  6. Next you will take your braided trim and hot glue it around the top rim and bottom rim of the shade to cover up all of the raw edges.

  7. Put this shade in literally any room of your home. Trust me, it will find a way to match.
