Of Gardens Past Pails

By:

These elegant pails are great for any garden party centerpiece. Fill with ice and beverages, flowers or snacks and enjoy!

Vintage Garden Pails

Materials:

  • Krylon Outdoor Spaces® Satin Finish - Sand (#2905)
  • Krylon Outdoor Spaces® Satin Finish - Mango (#2921)
  • Large Galvanized Pail
  • Rose printed napkin (I used Fairie Rose napkin from IHR Designs) or design of choice
  • Alphabet stamps
  • Magenta or Brown ink pad
  • Water based glue
  • Latex gloves
  • Cheap Bristle brush
  • Paper towel
  • Vinegar

Instructions:

  1. Wipe pail down with vinegar to remove any oily residue (this will help paint adhesion).

  2. Spray pail inside and out with “Sand” in light coats, let dry. (Don’t paint the inside if you want to put food or a plant directly inside the pail – use tape and newspaper to mask off instead). From a distance, lightly spray Mango by passing the spray stream “below” bottom rim and “above” top rim letting the over-spray create a softened effect. If more color is desired, spray more all over the bucket. Be wise, always observe safety precautions on spray cans and use excellent ventilation.

  3. Rip rose image from napkin in an irregular fashion, leaving no straight lines. Remove the back layers from napkin by moistening your thumb and forefinger and rolling an edge between them.

  4. In a bowl, thin glue with water to a milky consistency. Position the image on the pail centered horizontally between the handle attachments and vertically leaving a nice margin at top & bottom rims.

  5. Dip brush into glue (remove excess by dragging brush at bowl rim.) Brush on pail where ripped napkin piece will go. Press center of rose image into place. Brush more glue (not drippy) over image, gently working from center outward in all directions to permeate. Smooth out any wrinkles, let dry. Don’t worry if a hole rips. Either close the hole up or just trim away the hole edge to create a smooth edge. A hole will not detract from this design. Wash bristle brush, press between paper towels to dry.

  6. Stamp “Of Gardens Past” (or another phrase) at top margin near rim; let dry.
