Mod Canisters



Inexpensive ribbons and trims dress up these colorful canisters ideal for storing craft supplies.


  • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer - White (#51315)
  • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint - Celery (#53543)
  • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint - Peekaboo Blue (#51517)
  • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint - Blue Ocean Breeze (#51512)
  • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint - Periwinkle (#53524)
  • One D&CC Vintage Canister set #28-9967 (www.dcccrafts.com)
  • 1 spool of 1/4” black plaid ribbon
  • 27 small paper flowers (with stems removed)
  • 3 Slide Mounts
  • Newspaper
  • Waxed paper
  • Thick craft glue
  • Scissors


  1. Protect work area with newspaper. Use a sheet of waxed paper under canisters as a turntable as you are spraying. Spray two coats of Primer on entire canister set. Let dry thoroughly between coats.
  2. Spray two coats of Celery on entire lids and insides of all canisters. Let dry thoroughly between coats.
  3. Spray two coats of Peekaboo Blue on outside of large canister and lid knob. Let dry thoroughly between coats.
  4. Spray two coats of Blue Ocean Breeze on outside of medium canister and lid knob. Let dry thoroughly between coats.
  5. Spray two coats of Periwinkle on outside of small canister and lid knob. Let dry thoroughly between coats.
  6. Using scissors cut three lengths of black plaid ribbon to fit around each lid. Starting in back center and glue ribbon around lids. Fold end of ribbon over to create a finished edge, overlap and glue down using thick craft glue. Let dry.
  7. Reserve three flowers for next step. Referring to photo for placement glue one flower in each corner using thick craft glue. Let dry.
  8. Remove backing from adhesive strip inside slide mount. Press together to secure shut. Apply bead of craft glue around backside of slide mount. Referring to photo for placement, secure to fronts of canisters placing one flower underneath each slide.
  9. Place each lid knob on top of corresponding lid. Glue to secure if necessary.
