Sea Grass Table Runner

This soft and elegant Sea Grass Table Runner is made using a simple crochet doily pattern.  You can create matching coasters or extend the pattern to make a beautiful afghan or wrap made from doilies.  This pattern looks even better when you mix and match similar colors, like blues, greens, turquoises, and teals.  Great for summer or a simple outdoor wedding, this table runner is fun to make and a great way to work through your yarn stash.

Materials:

  • 1 ball Bernat® Handicrafter® Crochet Thread (85 g/3 oz; 339 m/371 yds) or (400 g/14 oz; 1569 m/1746 yds) in Fresh Fern
  • 1 ball Bernat® Handicrafter® Crochet Thread (85 g/3 oz; 339 m/371 yds) or (400 g/14 oz; 1569 m/1746 yds) in Avocado
  • 1.75 mm (U.S. 4) steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Diagram

 

Gauge:  30 sc and 32 rows = 4" [10 cm]

 

Instructions:
Approx 9" x 36" [23 x 91.5 cm].

Motif I (Make 16--8 each with A and B)

  1. Ch 6. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.
     
  2. 1st rnd: Ch 3 (counts as dc). 15 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
     
  3. 2nd rnd: Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2). *1 dc in next dc. Ch 2. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 5.
     
  4. 3rd rnd: Sl st in next ch-2 sp. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. *Ch 3. 1 sc in next ch-2 sp. Rep from * around. Ch 1. 1 dc in first sc.
     
  5. 4th rnd: Ch 6. Sl st in 3rd ch from hook (counts as dc and picot). (1 dc. Ch 3. Sl st to top of dc – picot made) twice around last dc. *Ch 2. 1 sc in next ch-3 sp. Ch 2. (1 dc. Picot) 3 times in next ch-3 sp. Rep from * around, ending with ch 2. 1 sc in last ch-3 sp. Ch 2. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 6.
     
  6. 5th rnd: Sl st back to last ch-2 sp. Ch 13 (counts as dc and ch 10). *Dc2tog over next 2 ch-2 sps. Ch 10. Rep from * around. 1 dc in last ch-2 sp. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 13.
     
  7. 6th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. *10 sc in next ch-10 sp. 1 sc in next dc2tog. Rep from * around, ending with 10 sc in last ch-10 sp. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  8. 7th rnd: Sl st in each of first 3 sc. Ch 3 (counts as dc). 1 dc in each of next 7 sc. *Dc2tog over next 3 sc. 1 dc in each of next 8 sc. Rep from * around, ending with dc2tog over last 3 sts. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
     
  9. 8th rnd: Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1). *1 dc in next dc. Ch 1. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.
     
  10. 9th rnd: Sl st in next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 2 sc in same sp as last sl st. *2 sc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
     
  11. Table Runner only: Join 2 Motifs: Work 1st to 8th rnds as given for Motif I.
     
  12. 9th rnd: Sl st in next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 2 sc in same sp as last sl st. *(2 sc in next ch-1 sp) 3 times. (1 sc. Sl st in corresponding sc of adjoining Motif. 1 sc) in next ch-1 sp. Rep from * twice more. **2 sc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from ** to end of rnd. Fasten off.
     
  13. Join 3 Motifs: Work 1st to 8th rnds as given for Motif I.
     
  14. 9th rnd: Sl st in next ch-1 sp. Ch 1. 2 sc in same sp as last sl st. *(2 sc in next ch-1 sp) 3 times. (1 sc. Sl st in corresponding sc of adjoining Motif. 1 sc) in next ch-1 sp.* Rep from * to * twice more. (2 sc in next ch-1 sp) 6 times. Rep from * to * 3 times more. **2 sc in next ch-1 sp. Rep from ** to end of rnd. Fasten off.
     
  15. Join Motifs as shown in Diagram.
