Wool ease Furry Pal

This crochet pattern for beginners, from Lion Brand Yarn, leaves you with a furry new friend. This little guy makes a great gift for kids.

Furry Friend Crochet Toy

Supplies:

  • Lion Brand Fun Fur (Art. #320)
    • #191 Violet 2 balls (A)
    • or color of your choice
  • Lion Brand Wool Ease (Art. #620)
    • #126 Chocolate Brown 1 ball (B)
    • or color of your choice
  • crochet hook size G-6 (4.25 mm)
  • large-eyed blunt needle
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Small amount of green worsted weight yarn (C)

Gauge:
16 single crochet 18 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) with 2 strands of A held together.
Be sure to check your gauge.

Stitch Explination:
single crochet 2 stitches together (single crochet decrease) insert hook into stitch and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next stitch and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Body (make 2):

  1. With 2 strands of A held together, chain 27.
     
  2. Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and each chain across – 26 single crochet.
     
  3. Row 2: Chain 1, turn, single crochet 2 stitches together, single crochet in each remaining single crochet across – 25 single crochet.
     
  4. Rows 3–7: Repeat Row 2 – 20 single crochet.
     
  5. Rows 8 and 9: Chain 1, turn, single crochet in each single crochet across.
     
  6. Rows 10–15: Repeat Rows 2–7 – 14 single crochet.
     
  7. Rows 16–31: Repeat Rows 8–15 twice – 2 single crochet.
     
  8. Row 32: Chain 1, turn, single crochet 2 stitches together – 1 single crochet.
     
  9. Fasten off.

Arms and Legs (make 4):

  1. With 1 strand of B, chain 3; join with slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.
     
  2. Round 1: Work 5 single crochet in ring; join with slip stitch in first single crochet.
     
  3. Round 2: Chain 1, 2 single crochet in each single crochet around; join with slip stitch in first single crochet – 10 single crochet.
     
  4. Round 3: Chain 1, single crochet in each single crochet around; join with slip stitch in first single crochet.
     
  5. Repeat Round 3 until piece measures about 3 in. (7.5 cm). Fasten off.

Eye:

  1. With 1 strand of B, chain 3; join with slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.
     
  2. Round 1: Work 12 sc in ring.
     
  3. Round 2: *Single crochet in next stitch, work 2 single crochet in next stitch, repeat from* around.
     
  4. Round 3: *Single crochet in each of next 2 stitches, work 2 single crochet in next stitch, repeat from* around. Fasten off.
     
  5. With 1 strand of C, repeat first round of Eye. Fasten off.
     
  6. Sew C Eye to B Eye, then sew piece to front of Body.

Finishing:

With wrong sides of Body pieces held together and working through both thicknesses, join 1 strand of A and single crochet around all sides, working 2 sc in each corner. Before closing final edge, stuff with polyester fiberfill. Sew on Arms and Legs. Weave in ends.
