Learn To Crochet A Cuddly Elmer Doll

Finished measurement:
Elmer sits 6” high.

Materials:

  • “Full o’ Sheep™”: 1 ball each 2510 Aquamarine A, 2260 Clementine B, and 2205 Little Lamb C.
  • Crochet Hook: 4mm [US G-6]. Split lock stitch marker, yarn needle, 12mm safety eyes, stuffing.

Gauge:
18 sts = 4”; 20 rounds = 4” in sc. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Abbreviations:

Inc (increase) = 2 sc in next sc.
Dec (decrease) = draw up a loop in next 2 sc, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
A, B, C = color A, B, C
ch = chain;
mm = millimeters
sc = single crochet
st(s) = stitch(es)
[ ] = work directions in brackets the number of times specified.

Note:

  • Work in continuous rounds without joining. Place marker in last st of round; move marker up each round.

Ears (Make 2)
Round 1: With B, ch 2; 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Round 2: [Inc, sc in next sc] 3 times – 9 sc.
Rounds 3 and 5: Sc in each sc around.
Round 4: [Inc, sc in next 2 sc] 3 times – 12 sc.
Round 6: [Inc, sc in next 3 sc] 3 times – 15 sc.
Round 7: [Inc, sc in next 4 sc] 3 times – 18 sc.
Round 8: [Inc, sc in next 5 sc] 3 times – 21 sc.
Rounds 9-11: Sc in each sc around.
Round 12: [Dec, sc in next 5 sc] 3 times – 18 sc.
Round 13: [Dec, sc in next 4 sc] 3 times – 15 sc.
Round 14: [Dec, sc in next 3 sc] 3 times – 12 sc. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Head
Round 1: With C, ch 2; 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Round 2: [Inc, sc in next sc] 3 times – 9 sc.
Rounds 3, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13: Sc in each sc around.
Round 5: [Inc, sc in next sc] 4 times, sc in last sc – 13 sc.
Round 7: [Inc, sc in next 2 sc] 4 times, sc in last sc – 17 sc.
Round 9: [Inc, sc in next 3 sc] 4 times, sc in last sc – 21 sc.
Round 10: [Inc, sc in next 2 sc] 7 times – 28 sc.

Rounds 15-19: With B, sc in each sc around. Attach ears and safety eyes to the head, and embroider the nose with scrap of B and yarn needle. Begin stuffing the head, and continue to stuff until head is fastened off.
Round 20: [Dec, sc in next 5 sc] 6 times – 36 sc.
Round 21: [Dec, sc in next 4 sc] 6 times – 30 sc.
Round 22: Sc in each sc around.
Round 23: [Dec, sc in next 3 sc] 6 times – 24 sc.

Round 26: [Dec] 6 times – 6 sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Finish stuffing. Weave tail through last round and gather tightly. Knot to secure.

Finishing
Stuff the body. Sew on the head. Stuff arms and legs and sew onto body.
