Kid's Orange Crochet Tank

By:

Crochet a cute tank for a young girl, perfect for Halloween, pumpkin-picking and many other occasions. You can wear the slit skirt of this tank at back or front and adorn with ribbons or lace for many different looks. This patterns comes to us compliments of indepedent knitwear and crochet designer Alla Koval of My Little City Girl, who specializes in unique kid's wear.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Katia Bamboo (60% bamboo, 40% cotton/50g/109yd) or Tahki Cotton Classic (100% cotton/50g /108 yd) 2/2/3 balls orange
  • 2 3/8” (10MM) matching baby doll buttons
  • satin ribbons in contrasting colors
  • Crochet Hook: C-2/2.75MM or size to obtain correct gauge
  • Schematic 1- Stitch Guide
  • Schematic 2- Garment Pattern


Gauge: 8 multiples x 12 rows = 4” x 4” made in “V” stitch pattern.

Sizes: 2/3 (4/5, 6/7) years

Pattern:

NOTE: Skirt of Tank Corset is crocheted first, from the top edge down to the hem. The bodice is then worked from the top edge of the skirt up to the top edge.

SKIRT

Ch 154/172/190 (a multiple of 18 sts 10).
Row 1: (dc, picot, dc) in 7th ch from hook, ch 1, (dc, picot, dc) in next ch, sk 7, dc in next ch, ch 1, dc in next ch, sk 7, (dc, picot, dc) in next ch, ch 1, (dc, picot, dc) in next ch, rep from across; ch 1, dc in last ch, turn.
NOTE: See diagram on p. 4.
Row 2: ch 4, sk 1st ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 4, [(dc, picot, dc) ch 1, (dc, picot, dc)] in next ch-1 sp; ch 4, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, rep from across; ch 1, dc in the top of turning ch, turn.
Row 3: ch 4, sk 1st ch-1 sp, [(dc, picot, dc), ch 1, (dc, picot, dc)] in next ch-1 sp, ch 4, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 4, [(dc, picot, dc), ch 1, (dc, picot, dc)] in next ch-1 sp, rep from across; ch 1, dc in last ch, turn.
Rows 4 - 13 (17, 19): rep Row 2 and 3 respectively. DO NOT fasten off.
Finishing edge (slit)
With RS facing working evenly along left side slit edge (see schematic 1, points A and C for detail) and then down right side to lower edge (point B), ch 1, sc in 1st sp, [ch 1, picot, ch 1, sc in next sp] across. Fasten off.

BODICE

Locate point D (see schematic 2), which is 1/4 of width from center of skirt and pm.
With RS facing, join with sl st to marked st, ch 1 and sc evenly along top edge of skirt, joining with sl st to first sc = approx. 114/126/138 sts (a multiple of 3 sts). Cont work in “V“ stitch patt (see diagram on
p. 5).
Rnd 1: ch 4, [(dc, ch 1, dc) in 3rd sc from hook, sk 2] across, ending with dc in 1st st, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 4 = 38/42/46 V-sts.
Rnd 2: ch 4, [(dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp] across, dc in first ch-1 sp, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 4.
Rnds 3 - 6 (6, 8): Rep Rnd 2.
Rnd 7 (7, 9): [ch 2, (dc, picot, dc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp] across, join with sl st in 1st ch of beg ch 2. Fasten off.
 

FINISHING

Straps ( make 2 )
Ch 58/66/74 (a multiple of 4 sts 2).
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, [ch 1, picot, ch 1, sk 3 sts, sc in next ch] across. Fasten off.
Sew straps inside top edge of bodice, spaced approx. • 5/6/7” apart on the front. Sew Baby Doll buttons
inside top edge of bodice on the back, spaced
approx. 4/5/6”. Button straps as desired.
Weave in ends.
