Reindeer Ornament

It's not Christmas without reindeer! Make this cute crochet project as a fun ornament or package decoration. The Reindeer Ornament from Lily Sugar n' Cream is a simple crochet pattern that's perfect for Christmas.  You could even make a whole set of 9 reindeer...and don't forget Rudolph!  This easy crochet pattern can be worked up in minutes, so it's great for a last minute gift exchange or tree decoration.

Lily Sugar N Cream Reindeer Ornament

Materials:
Note: 3 Reindeer Ornaments can be made with 1 ball each of MC, A and B.

  • 1 ball Lily® Sugar’n Cream Yarn in Jute (MC)
  • 1 ball Lily® Sugar’n Cream Yarn in Ecru (A)
  • 1 ball Lily® Sugar’n Cream Yarn in Red (B)
  • Size 3.5 mm (U.S. E or 4) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stuffing
  • 2 safety eyes
  • Short length of ribbon for hanging loop

Gauge:  16 sc and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

 

Instructions:
Measurement: Approx 3½ ins [9 cm] high (excluding antlers).

Head

  1. With MC, ch 2.
     
  2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc. 6 sc.
     
  3. 2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. 12 sc.
     
  4. 3rd and 4th rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  5. 5th rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Join with sl st to first sc. 18 sc.
     
  6. 6th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  7. 7th rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc.1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Join with sl st to first sc. 24 sc.
     
  8. 8th rnd: As 6th rnd.
     
  9. 9th rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc.1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 30 sc.
     
  10. 10th rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc.1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 36 sc.
     
  11. Insert safety eyes between 9th and 10th rnds, securing backs at WS of work according to manufacturers instructions.
     
  12. 11th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  13. 12th rnd: Ch 1. *Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 30 sc.
     
  14. 13th rnd: Ch 1. *Sc2tog. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 24 sc.
     
  15. 14th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  16. 15th rnd: Ch 1. *Sc2tog. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 18 sc. Stuff head.
     
  17. 16th rnd: Ch 1. *Sc2tog. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 12 sc.
     
  18. 17th rnd: Ch 1. (Sc2tog) 6 times. Join with sl st to first sc. 6 sc. Fasten off. Draw yarn through rem sts. Pull tightly and fasten securely.

 

Antlers (Make 2)

  1. With A, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring.
     
  2. 1st rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. 1 sc in each ch around. Join with sl st to first sc. 8 sc.
     
  3. 2nd to 5th rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  4. 6th rnd: Ch 1. *2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 12 sc.
     
  5. 7th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 3 sc. Ch 1. Miss next 6 sc. 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  6. 8th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 3 sc. 1 sc in next ch. 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. Join with sl st to first sc. 7 sc.
     
  7. 9th to 11th rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  8. 12th rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of first 2 sc. Sc2tog. 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. Join with sl st to first sc. 6 sc.
     
  9. 13th rnd: Ch 1. (Sc2tog) 3 times. Join with sl st to first sc. 3 sc. Fasten off. Draw yarn through rem sts. Pull tightly and fasten securely.
     
  10. Next rnd: Join yarn to first missed sc from 6th rnd. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as sl st. 1 sc in each of next 5 sc. 1 sc in rem loop of ch 1 from 7th rnd. Join with sl st to first sc. 7 sc.
     
  11. Next rnd: Ch 1. Sc2tog. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Sc2tog. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off. Draw yarn through rem sts. Pull tightly and fasten securely.
     
  12. Stuff Antlers lightly.

 

Ears (Make 2)

  1. With MC, ch 2.
     
  2. **1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  3. 2nd rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. 12 sc.** Fasten off.

 

Nose

  1. With B, ch 2.
     
  2. Work from ** to ** as given for Ears.
     
  3. 3rd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  4. Stuff Nose lightly.
     
  5. 4th rnd: Ch 1. (Sc2tog) 6 times. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  6. Fasten off.

 

Finishing

  1. Sew Antlers to sides of Head and Nose to bottom.
     
  2. Pinch top of Ears to form fold and sew to Head beneath Antlers. Sew loop of ribbon to top of Head for hanging.
