Crochet Christmas Tree Skirt

Crochet a lovely Christmas tree skirt using one of Roseanna Beck's free crochet patterns.  Red, green and white give this tree skirt a festive look that will match your other Christmas decor.
 


 

Chart

Size: 35 ½” x 38 ½”

Materials:

  • 340 yds. White Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 200 yds. Jockey Red Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 280 yds. Paddy Green Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 20 yds. Gold (PM51) Rainbow Gallery Metallic Yarn (10)
  • Tapestry Needle
  • G, H and I crochet hooks or size needed for guage
     

GUAGE: Motif measures 6” across
 

STITCH GUIDE: Chain (ch), Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Slip Stitch (sl st)
 

MOTIFS (see diagram for color code – Make 24 A and 12 B)
 

Rnd 1 – With white and G hook, ch 3 to form a ring, ch 3, work 11 dc in ring, join to top of  beginning ch 3 and fasten off.
Rnd 2 – With red (or green) and H hook sl st in any sc, ch 2, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, * ch 1, skip 1 sc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next sc, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 2 and fasten off.
Rnd 3 - With green (or red) and H hook sl st in any ch 2 sp, ch 2, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in ch 1 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch 2 sp, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 2 and fasten off.
Rnd 4 – With white and I hook, sl st in any ch 2 sp, ch 2, work 4 dc in same sp, *ch 2, sc in ch 1  sp, ch 2, 5 dc in ch 2 sp, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 2 and fasten off.

HALF MOTIF
(make 2)
Rnd 1 – With white and G hook, ch 2 and form a ring, ch 3, work 6 sc in ring, join to top of beg ch 3 and fasten off.
Rnd 2 – With green and H hook, sl st in first sc, ch 2, work 1 dc in same sp, *ch 1, skip 1 sc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next sc, rep from * around ending 2 dc in last sc and fasten off.
Rnd 3 – With red and H hook, sl st in first dc, ch 2, work 1 dc in same sp, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in ch 1 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch 2 sp, rep from * around ending 2 dc in last dc and fasten off.
Rnd 4 – With white and I hook, sl st in first dc, ch 2, work 2 dc in same sp, *ch 2, sc in ch 1 sp, ch  2, 5 dc in ch 2 sp, rep from * around ending 3 dc in last dc and fasten off.
 

JOINING TO MOTIFS (see diagram)

  • With white whipstitch all A motifs together and all B motifs together to form circles leaving opening (as shown on diagram)
  • Beg at upper right corner (see on diagram) with gold metallic thread stitch through both loops of 3rd dc (of 5 dc) of A motif circle and first dc of ½ motif and B motif circle, working only in top loop, sew through dc of A and B motifs, sew through sc of A and B motifs, sew through B motifs joining and 3rd dc of A motif, rep pattern around ending sew through both loops of last dc of B motif and 3rd dc of A motif.
  • To form the X’s reverse the sewing working from left to right and sewing through the same stitches, ending at the point. Rep this pattern for 2 other joinings.


EDGING

Rnd 1 – With red and I hook, start at upper left corner (see Start of Edging on diagram) sc in  3rd dc of 5 dc cluster, ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, sc in next sc, ch 2, sc in next dc,  ch 2, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, sc in joining, rep pattern around ending sc in 3rd dc  of 5 dc cluster (see Ending of Edging on diagram) and fasten off.
Rnd 2 – With green and I hook starting at upper left corner, (sc, ch 2, dc) in each ch 2 sp around ending, sc in last ch 2 sp and fasten off.
