Sedona Toddler Skirt

This Sedona Toddler Skirt is a great crochet project for all levels of crochet fans.  This twirly skirt is sure to be a well-loved piece of clothing for girls of all ages this fall.  Made of different colors and embellished with beautiful crochet stitches, this crocheted skirt is a fabulous way to jazz up a little girl's wardrobe this fall.  You could also make this skirt for spring, summer, or winter by changing the yarn colors you use.  This crocheted skirt makes a great weekend project and is sure to be a pattern you'll find yourself coming back to again and again.

Sedona Toddler Skirt

Materials:

  • 3 (4) skeins Naturally Caron Country yarn in Sunset (A)
  • 1 skein Naturally Caron Country yarn in Deep Taupe (B)
  • US I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge
  • US G-6 (4.25 mm) crochet hook
  • Safety pin
  • Split ring stitch marker
  • Yarn needle

 

Gauge: 

  • In single crochet, using I-9 (5.5 mm) hook, 12 sts and 12 rows = 4"/10 cm.
  • In shell pattern, using I-9 (5.5 mm) hook, 3 1/2 shells and 6 1/2 rows = 4"/10 cm.

 

Finished Measurements:
Waist cinches approx 4" when tie gathers waistband.

  • Waist 24 (26)"/61 (66)cm
  • Length 11 1/2 (13 1/2)"/29 (34,5)cm including bottom ruffle

 

Notes:

  • Work rounds of skirt in continuous spiral without joining.
  • Lower ruffle is worked in joined rounds as part of the skirt. The upper ruffle is worked separately and then sewn on, above lower ruffle.

 

Special Stitch:

  • shell: (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in indicated stitch or space.

 

Instructions:
18 months (36 months)

Skirt

 

  1. Beginning at waistband with larger hook and A, chain 72 (80); taking care to not twist ch, join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.
     
  2. Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around—72 (80) sc.
     
  3. Place a marker in the first sc to indicate beginning of round. Move marker up as each round is completed.
     
  4. Round 2: Sc in each sc around; do not join.
     
  5. Repeat Round 2 until piece measures 1 1/2"/4 cm from beginning.
     
  6. Increase Round: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around—108 (120) sc.
     
  7. Repeat Round 2 until piece measures 8 1/2 (10 1/2)"/21.5 (26.5) cm from beginning. Do not fasten off.

Lower Ruffle

  1. Round 1: *3 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—270 (300) sc.
     
  2. Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same st as join (shell made), *skip next 4 sc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next sc (shell made); repeat from * to last 4 sc, skip last 4 sc; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—54 (60) shells.
     
  3. Rounds 3 and 4: Slip st to first ch-3 space, ch 3, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same ch-3 space, shell in each remaining ch-3 space around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch.
     
  4. Fasten off.
     
  5. Edging Round: Join B with slip st in first ch-3 space, ch 1, (sc, hdc, dc, ch 2, dc, hdc, sc) in same ch-3 space, (sc, hdc, dc, ch 2, dc, hdc, sc) in each remaining ch-3 space around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

Upper Ruffle

  1. With larger hook and A, chain 112 (116); taking care to not twist ch, join with slip st in first ch to form a ring.
     
  2. Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around; join with slip st in first sc—112 (116) sc.
     
  3. Round 2: Ch 1, 3 sc in same sc as join, 2 sc in next sc, *3 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around; join with slip st in first sc—280 (290) sc.
     
  4. Round 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same st as join (shell made), *skip next 4 sc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next sc (shell made); repeat from * to last 4 sc, skip last 4 sc; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—56 (58) shells.
     
  5. Rounds 4 and 5: Slip st to first ch-3 space, ch 3, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same ch-3 space, shell in each remaining ch-3 space around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch.
     
  6. Fasten off.
     
  7. Edging Round: Join B with slip st in first ch-3 space, ch 1, (sc, hdc, dc, ch 2, dc, hdc, sc) in same ch-3 space, (sc, hdc, dc, ch 2, dc, hdc, sc) in each remaining ch-3 space around; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

Tie

  1. With smaller hook and B, make a chain about 55 (57)"/139.5 (145) cm long.
     
  2. Row 1: Slip st in second ch from hook and in each remaining ch across. Fasten off.

Finishing

  1. Sew the upper ruffle to skirt, about 2"/5 cm above lower ruffle, easing in any fullness. Fold waistband in half and sew down on wrong side.
     
  2. Attach one end of tie to safety pin. Beginning at center front of skirt, push safety pin in and out between groups of 2 sc and draw tie through waistband.
     
  3. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
