Dress up your little munchkin in this sweet and easy Crocheted Witch Hat.  It's comfortable for the baby to wear and is easy to embellish with various flowers or buttons.  You could even add stars and turn it into a wizard's hat!  Crochet hat patterns for babies are great for last minute costume ideas.  They work up quickly and are great projects for those who are new to crocheting.

Materials:

  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • 5 mm and 3.75 mm Crochet Hooks
  • Crochet needle (just for weaving in ends)

 

Instructions:

  1. Round 1: Magic Circle, CH 2, 3 HDC, Join to top CH of CH 2.

Working in a continuous rounds:

  1. Round 2: HDC in next 4 stitches
     
  2. Round 3: 2 HDC , HDC , 2 HDC , HDC
     
  3. Round 4: HDC in next 6 stitches
     
  4. Round 5: **2 HDC, HDC in next 2 stitches,  repeat  from **one more time
     
  5. Round 6: HDC in next 8 stitches
     
  6. Round 7: **2 HDC, HDC in next 3 stitches repeat  from **one more time
     
  7. Round 8: HDC in next 10 stitches
     
  8. Round 9: **2 HDC, HDC in next 4 stitches repeat  from **one more time
     
  9. Round 10: **2 HDC, HDC in next 5 stitches repeat  from **one more time
     
  10. Round 11: HDC in next 14 stitches
     
  11. Round 12: **2 HDC, HDC in next 6 stitches repeat  from **one more time
     
  12. Round 13: **2 HDC, HDC in next 7 stitches repeat  from **one more time
     
  13. Round 14: HDC in next 18 stitches
     
  14. Round 15: **2 HDC, HDC in next 5 stitches repeat  from **TWO more times
     
  15. Round 16: HDC in next 21 stitches
     
  16. Round 17: **2 HDC, HDC in next 6 stitches repeat  from **two more times
     
  17. Round 18: **2 HDC, HDC in next 7 stitches repeat  from **two more times
     
  18. Round 19: HDC in next 27 stitches
     
  19. Round 20: **2 HDC, HDC in next 8 stitches repeat  from **two more times
     
  20. Round 21: **2 HDC, HDC in next 9 stitches repeat  from **two more times
     
  21. Round 22: **2 HDC, HDC in next 10 stitches repeat  from **two more time.
     
  22. Round 23: 34 HDC, SC in next stitch, Slip stitch into next stitch

 

Change Colors

  1. Round 24: CH 2, HDC in same stitch,  HDC in next 17 stitches. 2 HDC in next stitch, HDC in next 17 stitches. Join to top of CH 2.
     
  2. Round 25: CH 2, HDC in next 37 stitches. Join to top of CH 2.
     
  3. Round 26: CH 2, HDC in same space, HDC in next 18 stitches. 2 HDC, HDC in next 18 stitches. Join to top of CH 2
     
  4. Round 27: CH 2, HDC in same space, HDC in next 19 stitches. 2 HDC, HDC in next 19 stitches. Join to top of CH 2
     
  5. Change Colors and switch to f/5 –3.75 mm hook
     
  6. IN FRONT LOOPS ONLY:  Round 28: CH 2, HDC in same stitch, HDC in next 2 stitches. **2 HDC, HDC in next 2 stitches. Repeat around, join to top of CH 2.

 

WORK IN BOTH LOOPS AGAIN

  1. Round 29: CH 2, HDC in same stitch, HDC in next 3 stitches. **2 HDC, HDC in next 3 stitches. Repeat around, join to top of CH 2.
     
  2. Round 30: CH 2, HDC in same stitch, HDC in next 4 stitches. **2 HDC, HDC in next 4 stitches. Repeat around, join to top of CH 2.
     
  3. Round 31:   CH 2, HDC in same stitch, HDC in next 5 stitches. **2 HDC, HDC in next 5 stitches. Repeat around, join to top of CH 2.
     
  4. Finish off.

This crocheted witch hat is adorable for that little one at Halloween. It would be cute in all black with orange trim too. The pattern is very easy and works up quite easy. This would be good for a beginner. This could also be made with some soft cotton yarn. Looks like a fun project to start while watching TV.
