Baby Duck

Baby Duck Toy

Materials:

  • Yarn: Lily Sugar’n Cream (Solids 2.5 oz/70.9 g/Ombres 2 oz/56.7 g)  Solids or Ombres: 2 balls Main Color (MC) and small amount of Contrast A.
  • Crochet Hook: Size 4.50 mm (U.S. 7) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Ribbon

Gauge: 18 sc and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

Instructions:

(Make 2 pieces alike). 

With MC, ch 11. 
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 10 sc. 
2nd row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first sc. 1 sc in each sc to last sc. 2 sc in last sc. 
Rep last row 3 times more. 
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. 
Rep last row 6 times more.

Tail: Next row: (RS). Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 6 sc. Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked. 
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in next sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over next 2 sts. Fasten off.

Head
With WS of work facing, join MC with ss to first st. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last ss. 1 sc in each of next 8 sc. Sc2tog over next 2 sc. Turn
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 8 sc. Turn. 
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 5 sc. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 
Next row: Ch 1. 3 sc in first st. 1 sc in each sc to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sts. Turn. 
Next row: Ch 1. 2 sc in first st. 1 sc in each sc to last st. 2 sc in last st. 10 sc. Turn. 
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 2. Turn. 
Next row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. 
Rep last 2 rows twice more. 
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 5 sc. Sc2tog over next 2 sts.Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. 1 sc in each of next 3 sc. Sc2tog over next 2 sts. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sts. Sc3tog over next 3 sts. Fasten off.

Joining Back and Front: Place Back and Front tog. Join MC with ss to first ch of foundation ch, working through both thicknesses. Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as first ss. 1 sc in each sp around, working 3 sc in top of Tail and point of nose. Join with ss to first sc. Fasten off. 
With A, embroider eye as illustrated. Tie ribbon around neck.
