SPECIAL TERMS
Lsc: Long single crochet—Insert hook in indicated st 2 rows below, yarn over and draw loop up to current row height, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

FPsc: Front Post single crochet—Insert hook from front to back and then to front again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

BPsc: Back Post single crochet— Insert hook from back to front and then to back again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

NOTES

  • Back and Fronts are worked side to side, lengthwise.
  • A Slanted Puff (Sl-Puff) consists of a 3-hdc puff that is worked around the previous hdc and the next ch-sp. The first 2 "legs" of the puff are worked around the post of the last hdc (or last hdc-leg) worked. The 3rd "leg" of the puff is worked into the next ch-sp.
  • To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Continue with new color.

Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 5th ch from hook, ch 2, sk next ch; yarn over, insert hook around post of hdc just made, yarn over and draw up a loop; yarn over, insert hook around post of same hdc, yarn over and draw up a loop; yarn over, insert hook in next ch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 7 loops on hook (Sl-Puff made) *ch 2, sk next ch; yarn over, insert hook around post of last hdc "leg" of Sl-Puff just made, yarn over and draw up a loop; yarn over, insert hook around post of same hdc, yarn over and draw up a loop; yarn over, insert hook in next ch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 7 loops on hook (Sl-Puff made); repeat from * across, turn—50 (51, 52, 53, 54, 55) Slanted Puffs.
     
  3. Rows 2–28 (31, 34, 37, 40, 43): Ch 3, sk first Sl-Puff, hdc in next ch-sp, *ch 2, sk next Sl-Puff, Sl-Puff; repeat from * across, working last "leg" of last Sl-Puff in 2nd ch of turning ch, turn.
     
  4. Fasten off.

    Note: Rows run lengthwise. First row forms one side edge and last row forms other side edge. Ends of rows form top and lower edges of Back.
  5. Measure and mark 9 (9 1/2, 10, 10 1/2, 11, 11)"/23 (24, 25.5, 26.5, 28, 28)cm down from top edge, on both sides, for armholes. Measure and mark 5 1/2 (6 1/4, 7 1/4, 7 3/4, 8 3/4, 9)"/14 (16, 18.5, 19.5, 22, 23)cm in from each side edge, along top edge, for neck. FRONT (make 2)

  1. Beginning at one side edge, with A, ch 105 (107, 109, 111, 113, 115).
     
  2. Rows 1–15 (17, 18, 20, 21, 23): Work Rows 1–15 (17, 18, 20, 21, 23) of Back—50 (51, 52, 53, 54, 55) Slanted Puffs. Fasten off.

    Note: Rows run lengthwise. First row forms one side edge and last row forms other side edge. Ends of rows form top and lower edges of Back.
  3. With RS facing, on one Front, measure and mark 9 (9 1/2, 10, 10 1/2, 11, 11)"/23 (24, 25.5, 26.5, 28, 28)cm down from top edge, on one side, for armhole. Measure and mark 5 1/2 (6 1/4, 7 1/4, 7 3/4, 8 3/4, 9)"/14 (16, 18.5, 19.5, 22, 23)cm in from armhole edge, along top edge, for neck. Repeat on second Front piece, placing armhole on opposite edge.

 

SLEEVE (make 2)

  1. Beginning at top edge, with A, ch 79 (83, 87, 91, 95, 95).
     
  2. Rows 1–4 (4, 3, 3, 2, 2): Work Rows 1–4 (4, 3, 3, 2, 2) of Back—37 (39, 41, 43, 45, 47) Slanted Puffs.
     
  3. Rows 5 (5, 4, 4, 3, 3)–22 (24, 24, 25, 26, 26) (decrease rows): Ch 3, sk first Sl-Puff, hdc in next ch-sp, *ch 2, sk next Sl-Puff, Sl-Puff; repeat from * across, working last leg of last Sl-Puff in last ch-sp and leaving turning ch unworked, turn—19 (19, 20, 21, 21, 21) Slanted Puffs.

    Sizes S only:
  4. Row 23: Ch 3, sk first Sl-Puff, hdc in next ch-sp, *ch 2, sk next Sl-Puff, Sl-Puff; repeat from * across, working last "leg" of last Sl-Puff in 2nd ch of turning ch, turn.
     
  5. All sizes: Fasten off.

 

ASSEMBLY
With RS facing, seam side and shoulders of Back and Fronts as follows: Working through both thicknesses, join yarn with sl st in corner, *ch 1, sl st in next ch-sp; repeat from * across. Sew in Sleeves.

 

EDGINGS

Lower Edging:

  1. With RS facing, join B with sl st in lower front corner, to work along lower edge.
     
  2. Row 1: Ch 1, working in ends of rows, work *Lsc in sp 2 rows below (sk next row end), sc in next row end; repeat from * evenly spaced across, turn.
     
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, BPsc around next Lsc, *sc in next sc, BPsc around next Lsc; repeat from * across, turn.

    Note: In Row 3, work Sl-Puffs by working first 2 "legs" around the hdc (last "leg") just made, and the 3rd leg into the next sc (sk all BPsc).
  4. Row 3: Ch 3, sk first BPsc, hdc in next sc, *ch 2, Sl-Puff; repeat from * across, working last "leg" of last Sl-Puff in top of turning ch, turn.
     
  5. Row 4: Ch 1, *Lsc in next skipped BPsc 2 rows below, sc in next ch-sp; repeat from * across working last sc in 2nd ch of turning ch, turn.
     
  6. Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first sc, FPsc around next Lsc, *sc in next sc, FPsc around next Lsc; repeat from * across, turn.

    Note: In Row 6, work Sl-Puffs by working first 2 "legs" around the hdc (last "leg") just made, and the 3rd leg into the next sc (sk all FPsc).
  7. Row 6: Ch 3, sk first FPsc, hdc in next sc, *ch 2, Sl-Puff; repeat from * across, turn.
     
  8. Row 7: Ch 1, *Lsc in next skipped FPsc 2 rows below, sc in next ch-sp; repeat from * across working last sc in 2nd ch of turning ch, turn.
     
  9. Rows 8–11: Repeat Rows 2–5.
     
  10. Fasten off.

Front Edging:
With RS facing, join B with sl st in lower front corner, to work along ends of rows across front edge. Work sc evenly across front edge, changing to A at end of lower edging, continuing up front edge, around neck, and down opposite front edge, and changing to B before working along side of lower edging. Do not fasten off.

Front Ruffles:

  1. Measure and mark 12 (12 1/2, 13, 13 1/2, 14, 14 1/2)"/30.5 (32, 33, 34.5, 35.5, 37)cm down from top on front edges, then place another marker 3" below each of these markers.
     
  2. Pivot to work along front edge.

    Note: When working Row 1, sk more or fewer sts to ensure that (sc, ch 1, sc) is worked in the last sc before the first st marker, and to ensure that the last (sc, ch 1, sc) is worked in the last sc at the top of the front edge (do not continue around the neck or along the opposite front edge).
  3. Row 1: Ch 1, (sc, ch 1, dc) in first sc, *sk next 2 sc, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next sc; repeat from * to first marker, ch 12, sk sts between markers, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next sc; **sk next 2 sc, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next sc; repeat from ** across to top front edge, turn.

    Note: When working the following rows, stop working the repeat as soon as you reach the ch-12 sp or the end of the row, continue with the remainder of the instruction (if any), do not worry about completing the repeat.
  4. Row 2: Ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, dc) in next 4 ch-1 sps, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next sc (increase made); repeat from * across to belt opening; working in chains of ch-12 sp, sk first ch, [(sc, ch 1, dc) in next ch, sk next 2 ch] 3 times, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next ch, sk last ch; **(sc, ch 1, dc) in next 4 ch-1 sps, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next sc (increase made); repeat from ** across, turn.
     
  5. Row 3: Ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, dc) in next 3 ch-1 sps, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next sc (increase made); repeat from * across, turn.
  6. Row 4: Ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, dc) in next 2 ch-1 sps, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next sc (increase made); repeat from * across, turn.
     
  7. Row 5: Ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across, (sc, ch 1, dc) in last sc, turn.
     
  8. Rows 6 and 7: Repeat Row 5 twice. Change to A at end of last row.
     
  9. Row 8: With A, ch 1, (sl st, ch 1, sc) in first ch-1 sp, *ch 1, (sl st, ch 1, sc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across.
     
  10. Fasten off. With WS facing, join B with sl st in corner of other front edge. Repeat Rows 1–8 to work ruffle along other front edge.

Cuffs:

  1. With RS facing, join B with sl st in 2nd ch of turning ch of last row of sleeve.
     
  2. Row 1: Ch 1, *Lsc in ch-sp 2 rows below (sk next st), sc in next ch-sp; repeat from * across, turn—38 (38, 40, 42, 42, 42) sts.
     
  3. Rows 2–8: Work Rows 2–8 of lower edging.
     
  4. Fasten off.

 

COLLAR/SCARF

Foundation:

  1. With B, ch 113 (113, 116, 119, 119, 122).
     
  2. First Half: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch across; with RS of Back facing, join with sl st in first sc at beginning of Back neck. Fasten off.
     
  3. With B, ch 113 (113, 116, 119, 119, 122); join with sl st to first sc at other end of Back neck.
  4. Second Half: Ch 1, sc in each ch across. Fasten off.
     
  5. Join B with sl st in first sc of first half of foundation row.
     
  6. Row 1: Ch 1, (sc, ch 1, dc) in first sc, *sk 2 sc, (sc, ch 1, dc) in next sc; repeat from * across first half of foundation row, back neck, and second half of foundation row.
     
  7. Row 2: Ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, dc) in next 4 ch-1 sps, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next sc (increase made); repeat from * across, turn.
     
  8. Rows 3–7: Work Rows 3–7 of front ruffle. Do not change to A at end of last row.

    Hint: When working Row 8, place a stitch marker at the beginning and the end of the back neck section.
  9. Row 8: With B, ch 1, *(sl st, ch 1, sc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; repeat from * to beginning of back neck; (sc, ch 1, dc) in each ch-1 sp across back neck; **(sl st, ch 1, sc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; repeat from ** across, sl st in last dc, turn.
     
  10. Row 9: Ch 1, sk first ch-1 sp, *(sl st, ch 1, sc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp; repeat from * to beginning of back neck; (sc, ch 1, dc) in each ch-1 sp across back neck; **(sl st, ch 1, sc) in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; repeat from ** across, turn. Change to A at end of row.
     
  11. Row 10: With A, repeat Row 9.
     
  12. Fasten off.

 

BELT

  1. With B, ch 129 (141, 153, 165, 177, 189).
     
  2. Row 1 (WS): Work Row 1 of Back—62 (68, 74, 80, 86, 92) Slanted Puffs.
     
  3. Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, *Lsc in next skipped ch of foundation ch, sc in next ch-sp; repeat from * across working last sc in 4th ch of turning ch, turn—124 (136, 148, 160, 172, 184) sts.
     
  4. Rows 3–9: Work Rows 2–8 of lower edging.
     
  5. Rows 10–12: Work Rows 3–5 of lower edging.
     
  6. Fasten off.

BUCKLE

Front Circle (make 2):

  1. With B, ch 2.
     
  2. Round 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st in first sc—6 sc.
     
  3. Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc—12 sc.
     
  4. Round 3: Ch 1, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] 6 times; join with sl st in first sc—18 sc.
     
  5. Round 4: Ch 1, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc] 6 times; join with sl st in first sc—24 sc.
     
  6. Round 5: Ch 1, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc] 6 times; join with sl st in first sc—30 sc.
     
  7. Round 6: Ch 1, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc] 6 times; join with sl st in first sc—36 sc.
     
  8. Fasten off first circle; do not fasten off second circle. Arrange beads on RS of first circle, as desired, and sew in place. With WS together, place first circle behind second circle. Working through both thicknesses and in back loops only, sl st in each st around to join. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Back Circle (make 2):

  1. Work same as front circle through Round 6. Do not fasten off.
     
  2. Round 7: Ch 1, [2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc] 6 times; join with sl st in first sc—42 sc.
     
  3. Fasten off of first circle; do not fasten off second circle. Join back circles in same manner as front circles.

Assembly
Mark 7 sts along edge of front and back circles, then mark the 7 corresponding sts on the opposite side. With WS of front and back circles together, sew together through marked sts on each side. With RS facing, join B with sl st in edge of front circles, ch 1, rev sc around. Fasten off. Repeat rev sc around back circles.

FINISHING

  1. Buttons: Sew one button to RS of front neck edge at beginning of back neck. Sew second button at same point on WS of opposite side.
     
  2. Button loops: With RS facing, join B with sl st in end of 2nd to last row at top of one front ruffle; ch 5, sl st in end of last row of ruffle. Fasten off. Repeat in same manner to work button loop at top of other front ruffle.
     
  3. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
