A Pink Cowl Sweater

MATERIALS

  • Patons® Melody (100 g/3.5 oz)
  • Sizes 8 (10-S-M-L)
  • (Magenta) (5-6-6-7-7 balls)

Size 10 mm (U.S. N or 15) crochet hook or size needed to obtain tension.

TENSION
7 sc and 7 rows = 4 ins [10 cm].

INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

BACK
**Ch 28 (30-32-34-38).
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. 27 (29-31-33-37) sc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in 1st sc through front loop only. *1 sc in next sc through back loop only. 1 sc in next sc through front loop only. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
Rep last row for pat until work from beg measures 9½ (10-12-12-12½) ins [24 (25.5- 30.5-30.5-32) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Armhole shaping: Next row: Sl st in each of first 2 sc. Pat to last 2 sc. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked. 23 (25-27-29-33) sc.
Next 3 rows:Work even in pat.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first sc. Draw up a loop in each of next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook - sc2tog made. Pat to last 3 sts. Sc2tog over next 2 sc. 1 sc in last st. Turn. 21 (23-25-27-31) sts.**
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 7 (7½-8-9-9½) ins [18 (19-20.5-23-24) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping: Next row: Sl st in each of first 3 (3-4-4-5) sc. Pat to last 3 (3-4-4-5) sc. Turn. Leave rem sc unworked.
Next row: Sl st in each of first 3 (4-4-4-5) sc. Pat to last 3 (4-4-4-5) sts. Place second marker. Leave rem sc unworked. Fasten off.

FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 3½ (4-4-4½-5) ins [9 (10-10-11.5-12.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Neck shaping: Next row: (RS). Ch 1. Pat across first 8 (9-10-10-12) sc (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sc unworked.
Next row: Ch 1. Sc2tog over first 2 sc. Pat to end of row. Turn. 7 (8-9-9-11) sts.
Next row: Ch 1. Pat to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over next 2 sts. Turn. 6 (7-8-8-10) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping: Next row: Sl st in each of first 3 (3-4-4-5) sc. Ch 1. Pat across last 3 (4- 4-4-5) sts. Fasten off.
With RS facing, miss next 5 (5-5-7-7) sc. Join yarn with sl st to next st. Ch 1. Pat to end of row. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. Pat to last 2 sts. Sc2tog over last 2 sc. Turn. 7 (8-9-9-11) sts.

Cowl Neck: Sew shoulder seams.
1st rnd: With RS of work facing, join yarn with sl st to right shoulder. Ch 1.Working into both loops, work 9 (9-9-11-11) sc across back neck edge, 9 (9-10-11-11) sc down left front neck edge, 5 (5-5-7-7) sc across Front neck edge and 9 (9-10-11-11) sc up right front neck edge. Join with sl st to first sc. 32 (32-34-40- 40) sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in next sc through back loop only. 1 sc in next sc through front loop only. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc.
