A Crochet Shawl

Celebrate life and love with this pink Crochet Shawl from Bernat Yarns.  Perfect for honoring all the women in your life during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this crochet shawl pattern is easy to make and great to wear throughout the season.  This is a great pattern for beginners and a fun way to add a pop of color to any outfit.  Make a shawl in all your favorite colors so you always have something warm and cozy to pull around your shoulders.

Materials:

  • 3 balls Bernat® Satin (120 g/4.2 oz; 230 m/251 yds) in Flamingo
  • Size 5.5 mm (U.S. I or 9) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

 

Gauge: 7 sps and 6 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in pat.
Measurements: Approx 57 ins [144.5 cm] wide x 31 ins [78.5 cm] deep.


Instructions:
Note: sp(s) = space(s). Pattern is calculated in spaces throughout.

  1. Ch 201.
     
  2. 1st row: (WS). 1 dc in 5th ch from hook (counts as 1 dc and ch-1 sp). *Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 dc in next ch. Rep from * across. 99 sps. Turn.
     
  3. 2nd row: Ch 4. Miss first ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc. (Ch 1. Miss next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc) twice. *(Yoh and draw up a loop. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times in next ch-1 sp. Yoh and draw through all 4 loops on hook – cluster made. 1 dc in next dc. (Ch 1. Miss next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc) 3 times. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.
     
  4. 3rd row: Sl st in first dc. Sl st in next ch-1 sp. Sl st in next dc. Ch 4. Miss next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc – beg dec made. *Ch 1. Miss next ch-1 sp or cluster. 1 dc in next dc. Rep from * to last ch-1 sp. Turn. Leave rem sp unworked.
     
  5. 4th row: Beg dec. (Ch 1. Miss next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc) twice. *Cluster in next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc. (Ch 1. Miss next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc) 3 times. Rep from * to last 5 ch-1 sps. Cluster in next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc. (Ch 1. Miss next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc) 3 times. Turn. Leave rem sp unworked.
     
  6. Rep last 2 rows until there are 5 ch-1 sps.
     
  7. Next row: Beg dec. (Ch 1. Miss next ch-1 sp. 1 dc in next dc) twice. Turn. Leave rem st unworked.
     
  8. Next row: Beg dec. Fasten off.
     
  9. FINISHING:  Outer Edging: 1st rnd: With RS facing, join yarn with sl st at top left corner and work 1 rnd sc evenly down side edge, around point, up other side edge and across foundation row of Shawl. Join with sl st to first sc.
     
  10. 2nd rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
     
  11. The Shawl is made with prayers and blessings and given with love to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as celebration and joy.
