Eco Blend Natural Stripes Rug

The neutral colors of this crochet rug from Red Heart Yarn make it look so earth-friendly. Use this free crochet pattern to make an Eco Blend Natural Stripes Rug, as it's perfect for beginners. It would look great in your kitchen or bathroom.  You can create a rug of your own design by using different colored yarn to create this classy striped pattern.  This pattern is worked holding 2 strands of yarn together, to the end result is a nice thick rug that will keep your feet nice and warm.

Materials:

  • 3 balls Red Heart “Eco-Cotton™ Blend” yarn in Almond (A)
  • 3 balls Red Heart “Eco-Cotton™ Blend” yarn in Snow (B)
  • 6.5 mm [US K-10.5] and 6 mm [US J-10] crochet hooks
  • Yarn needle

 

Gauge:  9 sts = 4”; 8 rows = 3” in pattern with larger hook and 2 strands held together. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

 

Instructions:
Rug measures 24” wide x 31” long without fringe.
Note: Work with 2 strands held together throughout.

  1. With larger hook and 2 strands of A ch 71 loosely.
     
  2. Row 1 (Right Side): Draw up a loop in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook, * draw up a loop in same ch as last leg of last st and in next ch, yo and through all 3 loops on hook; repeat from * across; sc in same ch as last leg of last st; turn – 70 sts.
     
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, draw up a loop in first 2 sts, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook, * draw up a loop in same st as last leg of last st and in next st, yo and through all 3 loops on hook; repeat from * across; sc in same st as last leg of last st changing to 1 strand A and 1 strand B at end of row; turn – 70 sts.
     
  4. Rows 3-6: Using A and B together, repeat rows 1 and 2 twice changing to 2 strands of B in last sc of Row 6.
     
  5. Rows 7-10: Repeat Rows 3-6 with 2 strands of B.
     
  6. Rows 11-14: Repeat Rows 3-6 with A and B held together.
     
  7. Rows 15-18: Repeat Rows 3-6 with 2 strands of A.
     
  8. Rows 19-48: Repeat Rows 3-18 for color and pattern twice more.
     
  9. Rows 49-52: Repeat Rows 3-6.
     
  10. Rows 53-56: Repeat Rows 7-10.
     
  11. Rows 57-60: Repeat Rows 11-14.
     
  12. Rows 61-62: Repeat Rows 3-4.
     
  13. At end of of last row turn and change to smaller hook and work 1 rnd sc evenly around rug working 3 sc in each corner; join. Fasaten off. Weave in ends.
     
  14. Cut 7” lengths of A and knot into a fringe on each short end of rug. Trim.
