Tiny Seal

Learn to crochet this tiny seal to make as a keepsake stuffed toy for a child or new baby. This adorable seal amigurumi pattern from Leanna Booth is easy to make and hard to resist cuddling.

Materials:

  • 8 Ply Yarn (about 20g - 1oz)
  • Size 5.00mm crochet hook (UK 6, US 8)
  • Beads or safety eyes
  • Black thread or safety nose
  • Stuffing

(For US read sc for dc)

Instructions:

  1. Make 3 ch, ss into first chain to form a ring
     
  2. 6dc into ring
     
  3. 2dc into each dc, ss into 1st dc, 1ch (marker)
     
  4. 1dc into each dc (13), ss into ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  5. 2dc into first 5sts (to shape top of head) 1dc into next 9 sts, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  6. 2dc into 1st 10sts, 1dc into next 9sts, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  7. 1dc into 1st st, (miss 1dc, 1dc in next st) 10 times, 1dc in next 9 sts, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
  8. 1dc into each st (21dc) ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  9. Repeat Row 8 twice
     
  10. (Miss 1dc, 1dc in next st) 11 times, miss 1dc, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  11. 2dc in each st to end, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  12. 1dc in each st to end, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  13. (STUFF HEAD) (attach safety eyes/nose here)
     
  14. 2dc in 1st st, (1dc in next st, 2dc in next st) 5 times, 1 dc in each st to end, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  15. 1dc in each st to end, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  16. 1dc in 1st st, (miss 1dc, 1dc in next 2 sts) 6 times, 1dc in each st to end, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker) 1dc in each st to end, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  17. Miss 1dc (1dc in next 5sts, miss 1dc) 4 times, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker) 
     
  18. (Miss 1dc, 1dc in next 4 sts) 4 times, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  19. (Miss 1dc, 1dc in next 4 sts) 4 times, 1dc in next st, ss into 1ch, 1ch (marker)
     
  20. 1dc in each st (10) (STUFF BODY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, tail flippers are not stuffed)
     
  21. 1dc in next 9dc as 23
     
  22. 1dc in 1st st, 3dc in next st, 1dc in next st, 2dc in next st, 1dc in next st, 3dc in next st, 1dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next st
     
  23. 1dc in next 4 sts, turn and dc in middle st of other side, dc in next 4 sts
     
  24. dc in next 7 sts, (miss 1dc, 1dc in next st) 3 times, finish by pulling yarn through last stitch, cut, leave a length of yarn - sew inside of flippers with this yarn to finish off.
     
  25. Re-join yarn next to 1st flipper, dc in next 6 sts - Repeat row 27

Front Flippers (Make 2)

  1. 9ch, join with a ss into 1st stitch to make a circle
     
  2. 1 dc in next 9 sts, ss into 1st dc
     
  3. 1 dc in next 4 sts (2dc in next st) twice, 1 dc in next 3 sts, ss into 1st dc
     
  4. Miss 1dc, 1dc in next 2dc, (2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 sts) twice, miss 1dc, ss into 1st st
     
  5. Do 1 round (10 sts) ss in next st
     
  6. 2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, (miss 1dc, 1dc in next st) twice, 1dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st, miss 1dc, ss in next st
     
  7. 2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, miss 1dc, 1dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st, miss ss, 2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, miss 1dc, 1dc in next st, 1dc in next 3 sts, ss in next st.
     
  8. Fasten off, leave long end. Sew end together.
     
  9. Sew on bead eyes and nose or embroider. Sew on flippers just under neck indent.
     
  10. Embroider flippers if you wish.
     
  11. If you are using safety eyes, attach these before stuffing the head at row 12
