Sophisticated Pomp-Edged Crocheted Throw

Take your everyday afghan to new heights by adding a substantial and sophisticated edge to an already lovely afghan. Pomp-a-Doodle yarn
forms the fabulous multicolored edging highlighting the beautiful print yarn center of this sophisticated pomp-edged crocheted throw from Red Heart Yarn. Once the foundation is established, this afghan has a two-row repeat, which is easy to work while catching up on your favorite TV shows.

Throw measures 55” x 45”.

Pomp Edged Throw

Materials:

  • Red Heart® “Super Saver®” (Art. E300) solid color 7 oz (198 g), 364 yd (333 m); multi color and print 5 oz (141 g), 244 yd (223 m), flecks 5 oz (141g), 260 yd (238 m) skeins: 8 skeins 305 Aspen Print A
  • Red Heart® “Pomp-a-Doodle™” (Art. E765) 3.5 oz (100 g), 54 yd (50 m) balls: 2 balls 9950 Prairie B
  • Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]
  • Yarn needle

GAUGE: 11 sts = 4”; 8 rows = 4” in pattern with A. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Special Abbreviation
Cl (Cluster) = [yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops on hook] 3 times all in next st, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Row 1 (Right Side): With A, ch 150; sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across; turn – 149 sc.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), skip first sc, [Cl in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc] 73 times, Cl in next sc, dc in last sc; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, [sc in Cl, sc in ch-1 space] 73 times, sc in Cl, sc in top of ch-3; turn.
Rows 4-89: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 forty-three times. Do not fasten off but pivot to work Border.

Border
Round 1: With right side still facing, work sc evenly around all 4 sides of throw taking care to keep work flat and working 3 sc in each corner; join with a slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
Round 2: With WRONG side facing, join B in any sc; working with the yarn between the pom poms throughout ch 1, sc in each sc around; do NOT join.
Round 3: Sc in each sc of Round 2; join with a slip st in first sc of Round 3.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
