Sherbet and Vanilla Ice Cream Afghan

Cuddle up with the colors of summer with this bright and festive Sherbet and Vanilla Ice Cream Afghan from Roseanna Beck.  Cozy and fun to curl up with, this crochet afghan pattern is perfect for adding color to any room in your home.  The bright colors are great for summer, but can also be used in a bedroom any time of year.  Kids and adults of all ages will love this colorful and fun afghan.

Materials:

  • 1 skein Red Heart With Love Yarn in Hot Pink
  • 1 skein Red Heart With Love Yarn in Mango
  • 1 skein Red Heart With Love Yarn in Lettuce
  • 1 skein Red Heart With Love Yarn in Aran
  • 4.5mm (US G-6) crochet hook or size needed for gauge

 

Gauge:  4 rows – 3 ¼”; 6 V Sts – 4 ½”

Special Stitch:  V St – (dc, ch 1, dc)

 

Instructions:
Throw Measures:   43” x 48”

  1. Row 1 (RS):  With hot pink ch 144, dc in 5th ch from hook, skip 3 ch, *V St in each of next 2 ch, skip 3 ch, repeat from * across to within last ch, V St in last ch, turn.
     
  2. Row 2:  Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in next ch 1 sp, skip next ch 1 space, *V St in each of next 2 dc, skip next 2 ch 1 spaces, repeat from * across to turning ch, V St in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn.
     
  3. Row 3:  Repeat Row 2.
     
  4. Row 4:  Repeat Row 2, fasten off and turn.
     
  5. Row 5:  Join mango with a sl st in first ch 1 space, ch 3, dc in same space, continue with Row 2 from * across.

 

Color Scheme

  1. Continue pattern as established for a total of 60 rows as follows:  4 rows each hot pink, mango, lettuce, aran (3 times), 4 rows each hot pink, mango, lettuce

 

Throw Edging

  1. Work along top edge with aran (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in right corner dc, *ch 1, skip next ch 1 space, sc between next 2 dcs, ch 1, skip next ch 1 space, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next dc, repeat from * across,  (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in last dc.
     
  2. Work along side edge *ch 1, sc in space between next 2 rows, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in space between next 2 rows, repeat from* across, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in first ch of bottom edge.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge *ch 1, sc in ch 3 space, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in ch below first V St, repeat from * across, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in last ch.
     
  4. Work along side edge *ch 1, sc in space between next 2 rows, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in space between next 2 rows, repeat from* across, join to beginning dc and fasten off.
