Nature Inspired Throw

Size: 59" x 45" without edging

Materials:

  • RED HEART® "Eco-Ways™": 3 balls each 3114 Chamois A, 3520 Aquarium B, 1615 Lichen C, 3360 Mushroom D; 4 skeins 3313 Oyster E.
  • Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8].
  • Yarn needle.

GAUGE: Square measures 6" x 6". CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Special Abbreviations
dc4tog = [yo and draw up a loop in next st, yo and draw through 2 loops] 4 times, yo and draw through all 5 loops on hook.

dc5tog = [yo and draw up a loop in next st, yo and draw through 2 loops] 5 times, yo and draw through all 6 loops on hook.


Square A (Make 16)
With A, wind yarn around finger for beginning ring, leaving a tail to tighten the ring; insert hook into ring and draw yarn through. Tighten ring after Rnd 1 is completed. Weave in end.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 4 dc in ring, [ch 3, 5 dc in ring] 3 times, ch 3; join with a slip st to top of ch-3. Fasten off.

Rnd 2: Join E in same st as joining, ch 3, dc4tog (counts as first dc5tog), ch 5, [slip st in next ch-3 space, ch 5, dc5tog, ch 5] 3 times, slip st in next ch-3 space, ch 5; join to top of first dc5tog. Fasten off.

Rnd 3: Join A in top of any dc5tog; * working over the ch-5 of Rnd 2, (5 dc, ch 3, 5 dc) all in next ch-3 space of Rnd 1, slip st in top of next dc5tog; repeat from * around.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, 4 dc in same st as joining, * skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip 2 dc, (5 dc, ch 3, 5 dc) in next ch-3 space, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, skip 2 dc **, 5 dc in next slip st; repeat from * around, end at **; join. Fasten off.

Rnd 5: Join E in any st; ch 1, sc in each dc and sc around and work (sc, ch 3, sc) in each ch-3 space; join. Fasten off.

Rnd 6: Join A in any st; ch 3, dc in each sc around and work (dc, ch 3, dc) in each ch-3 space; join. Fasten off.

Square B (C, D): Make 16 (16, 15) squares same as Square A EXCEPT substitute B (C, D) for A.

Assembly
Sew squares together in 9 rows of 7 squares each as follows:
Rows 1, 5, and 9: A-B-C-D-A-B-C.
Rows 2 and 6: D-A-B-C-D-A-B.
Rows 3 and 7: C-D-A-B-C-D-A.
Rows 4 and 8: B-C-D-A-B-C-D.


Edging
Attach E in the dc after a corner ch-3 space.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in joining; ch 2, slip st in 2nd ch from hook – picot made; * sc in next 3 sts, picot; repeat from * around counting ch-3 spaces (other than the four corners) as one st, skipping seams and counting the corner spaces as 2 sts; join in first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), picot, * ch 2, dc in 2nd of next 3 sc, ch 2 **, picot; repeat from * around, end at ** adjusting at corners as necessary to keep work flat; join in 3rd ch of ch-5. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
