Use Roseanna Beck's free crochet afghan patterns to make this lovely Holiday Cheer Afghan in red, green, and white with festive edging. This afghan is so simple and cozy for the holidays!

Holiday Cheer Afghan Holiday Cheer Afghan

Size: 40” x 45” (not including fringe)

Materials:

  • 325 yds. Jockey Red Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 490 yds. White Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 345 yds. Paddy Green Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 60 yds. Christmas Multi Herrschners yarn
  • H crochet hook or size needed for gauge

Gauge: 8 rows color pattern – 6 ¼”
6 dc – 2”

Stitch Guide: Chain (ch), Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Slip Stitch (sl st)

 

Instructions:

  1. Row 1 – With red ch 127, dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 3 and turn. (125 dcs)
     
  2. Row 2 – Dc in first dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each of next 11 dc, rep from * across ending ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in last 2 dc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  3. Row 3 – Dc in dc and ch 1 sp, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each of next 9 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in ch 1 sp, rep from * across ending ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp and last 2 dc, ch 3  and turn.
     
  4. Row 4 – 1 dc in each of next 2 dc and ch 1 sp, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each of next 7 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp, dc, and ch 1 sp, rep from * across ending ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp and last 3 dc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  5. Row 5 – 1 dc in each of next 3 dc and ch 1 sp, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp, 3 dc and ch 1 sp, rep from * across ending ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp and last 4 dc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  6. Row 6 – 1 dc in each of next 4 dc and ch 1 sp, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp, 5 dc and ch 1 sp, rep from * across ending ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp and last 5 dc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  7. Row 7 – 1 dc in each of next 5 dc and ch 1 sp, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp, 7 dc and ch 1 sp, rep from * across ending ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp and last 6 dc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  8. Row 8 – 1 dc in each of next 6 dc and ch 1 sp, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp, 9 dc and ch 1 sp, rep from * across ending ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 sp and last 7 dc, fasten off and  turn.
     
  9. Row 9 – Join white with a sl st in first dc, ch 2, 1 dc in each dc and ch 1 sp across, ch 3 and  turn.
     
  10. Rep Rows 9, 2 – 8 for color pattern as follows changing color on Row 9: (57 rows) Red, White, Green, White, Red, White, Green ending with Row 9 Green and do not turn.


Edging:

  1. With Christmas multi work along top edge 3 sc in first dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 2 sc in next dc, *ch 2, skip 2 dc, 2 sc in next dc, rep from * across ending ch 1 skip 1 dc, 3 sc in last dc.
     
  2. Work along side edge ch 1, 2 sc in dc, *ch 2, 2 sc in dc, rep from * across ending ch 1, 3 sc in first ch of bottom edge.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge ch 1, skip 1 ch, 2 sc in next ch, *ch 2, skip 2 ch, 2 sc in next ch, rep from * across ending ch 1, 3 sc in last ch.
  4. Work along side edge ch 1, 2 sc in dc, *ch 2, 2 sc in dc, rep from * across, join to beg sc and fasten off.

Fringe:

  1. Cut red, white, green and Christmas multi into 11” pieces.
     
  2. Attach fringe to top and bottom edges of afghan as follows:
     
  3. Top Edge – (red, white, multi) in first ch 1 sp, skip two ch 2 sps, (green, white, multi) in next ch 2 sp, rep alternating (red, white, multi) and (green, white, multi) across ending (green, white, multi) in last ch 1 sp.
     
  4. Bottom Edge – (green, white, multi) in first ch 1 sp, skip two ch 2 sps, (red, white, multi) in next ch 2 sp, rep alternating (green, white, multi) and (red, white, multi) across ending (red, white, multi) in last ch 1 sp.
