Geometric Tweed Blanket

This blanket from Bernat Yarns has squares of diamonds and stripes in a chunky-weight yarn. The monochromatic color scheme gives it a retro feel.

Geometric Tweed Blanket

Materials:

  • Bernat® Chunky (Big Ball) (Solids: 400 g/14 oz; 587 m/642 yds)
  • OR (Ombres: 300 g/10.5 oz; 439 m/ 480 yds)
  • Contrast A: (90514 Topaz) 2 balls
  • Contrast B: (90008 Aran) 1 ball
  • Contrast C: (90029 Walnut) 1 ball

OR

  • Bernat® Softee Chunky (100 g/3.5 oz; 164 m/180 yds)
  • A: (39514 Topaz) (785 g/27.7 oz; 1150 m/1255 yds)
  • B: (39008 Natural) (160 g/5.7 oz; 240 m/ 260 yds)
  • C: (39029 Walnut) (165 g/5.8 oz; 245 m/ 265 yds)
  • Crochet Hook: size 6 mm (U.S. J or 10) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Measurements:  Approx 42 x 58 ins [106.5 x 147.5 cm].

Gauge:  Each Motif = Approx 8 ins [20.5 cm] square.

 

Instructions:
MOTIF A (make 18)

  1. Note: Ch 2 for turning ch does not count as hdc.
     
  2. With A, ch 21.
     
  3. 1st row: (WS). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook. 1 hdc in each ch across. Turn. 19 sts.
     
  4. 2nd and alt rows: Ch 2. 1 hdc in each st to end of row. Turn.
     
  5. 3rd row: As 2nd row.
     
  6. 5th row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in first 9 hdc. 5 dc in next hdc. Drop loop from hook. Reinsert hook in first of 5 dc and draw dropped loop through. Ch 1 to complete st – bobble made. 1 hdc in each hdc to end. Turn.
     
  7. 7th row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in first 7 hdc. Bobble in next hdc. 1 hdc in next 3 hdc. Bobble in next hdc. 1 hdc in each hdc to end. Turn.
     
  8. 9th row: Ch 2. 1 hdc in first 5 hdc. (Bobble in next hdc. 1 hdc in next 3 hdc) twice. Bobble in next hdc. 1 hdc in each hdc to end. Turn.
     
  9. 11th row: As 7th row.
     
  10. 13th row: As 5th row.
     
  11. 15th and 17th rows: As 2nd row.
     
  12. Fasten off


MOTIF B (make17)

  1. With C, ch 26.
     
  2. 1st row: (RS). Draw up a loop in 2nd ch from hook. Draw up a loop in next ch. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – sc2tog made. Ch 1. *Sc2tog over next 2 ch. Ch 1. Rep from * to last ch. 1 sc in last ch. Turn. 25 sts.
     
  3. 2nd row: Ch 1. *Sc2tog over next st and ch-1 sp. Ch 1. Rep from * to last st. 1 sc in last st. Join A. Turn.
     
  4. Last row forms pat.
     
  5. With A, work 2 rows pat. With B, work 4 rows pat. With A, work 2 rows pat.
     
  6. With C, work 2 rows pat. With A, work 2 rows pat. With B, work 4 rows pat.
     
  7. With A, work 2 rows pat. With C, work 2 rows pat. Fasten off.
     
  8. Edging: (RS). Join A with sl st in any corner. Ch 1. 3 sc in same sp. Work sc evenly around outer edge, working 3 sc in each corner. Join to first sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING

  1. Join Motifs tog alternating direction of stripes on Motif B as shown in picture.
     
  2. Edging: 1st rnd: (RS). Join C in any corner. Ch 1. 3 sc in same sp. Work sc evenly around outer edge, working 3 sc in each corner. Join A to first sc.
     
  3. 2nd rnd: With A, ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in each corner sc.
     
  4. Join to first sc. Fasten off.
