    Pattern and Chart

Crochet Hook Size 3

Finished Bag Size 45” square

Gauge 31 chain stitches X 21 rows = 4” square

Instructions:

Center: Using ecru, work 253 chain stitches for a base chain.
Continue as indicated in the stitch chart. Check the length to make sure that the base chain measures 35-1/2” long. If not, add a couple of stitches or unpick some of those already worked, as necessary. Now follow the chart until your work measures 35-1/2” from the base chain. Cut the yarn and darn in the end.

Border:
Using red, work 27 chain stitches. Continue in single crochets, as shown in the chart. Check that your work is 4-3/4” wide. If not, add a couple of stitches or unpick those already worked, as necessary, to achieve the correct width. Continue following the chart until the work measures 114 cm from the base chain. Make 3 more identical bands using blue, yellow, and green yarn. Cut the yarn and darn in the end as you complete each section.

Assembly and finishing:

Using a tapestry needle and the matching yarn or a machine, sew each of the bands to form a border for the central section. Use a steam iron to press the seams lightly on the wrong side.
