Crayon Colored Afghan

Crayon Colored Afghan

Materials:

  • 750 yds. White Red Heart 4-ply yarn (MC)
  • 145 yds. each Red Heart 4-ply yarn (CC)--Cherry Red, Hot Pink, Lavender, Lime, Orange, Paddy Green, Parakeet, Skipper Blue, Yellow
  • H and I crochet hooks or size needed for guage
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Graph

Instructions:

GUAGE: Square measures 5 ½” across

STITCHES USED: Chain (ch), Single Crochet (sc), Half Double Crochet (hdc), Double
Crochet (dc), Slip Stitch (sl st)

SQUARES: (make 8 of each CC color)

  1. Rnd 1 – With MC and I hook ch 3 and form a ring, ch 3, in ring work 2 dc, ch 3, *3 dc, ch 3,  rep from * 2 times, join to top of beg ch 3 and fasten off.
     
  2. Rnd 2 – With H hook join CC with a sl st in any ch 3 sp, ch 2, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, *ch  2, skip 1 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next dc, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 3 sp, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 2.
     
  3. Rnd 3 – Sl st in next dc and ch 2 sp, sc in same sp, *5 dc in next ch 2 sp, sc in next ch 2 sp, rep from * around, join to beg sc and fasten off.
     
  4. Rnd 4 – Note: Work all sts in back loop only. With MC and I hook join MC with a sl st in any sc opposite 3 dc of Rnd 1, ch 2, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same sc, *dc in next dc, hdc in next dc, work 1 sc in each of the  next 7 st, 1 hdc in next dc, dc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next sc, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 2 and fasten off.

 
JOINING: With right side facing and white whipstitch squares together sewing 9 rows of 8
squares each. See Color Diagram for placement of squares.
 

EDGING:

  1. Note: Use 4 different CC of your choice
    Rnd 1 – With I hook and CC (sc, ch 3, sc) in any corner sp, ch 2, skip 1 st, sc in next st, ch 2, skip 2 st, sc in next st, rep across, ch 2, sc in ch 1 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch 1 sp, rep  across to corner sp, continue this pattern around afghan changing color at each  corner, join to beg sc and fasten off.
  2. Note: Use 4 different CC of your choice
    Rnd 2 – With CC (sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc) in any corner ch 3 sp, ch 2, *2 sc in ch 2 sp, ch 2, rep across to corner, continue pattern around afghan changing color at each corner, join to beg sc and fasten off.
