Cozy Mile a Minute Throw

This Cozy Mile a Minute Throw from Roseanna Beck is great for those who are looking for a bit of a challenge.  Made with two contrasting colors, this crocheted afghan is easy to customize to suit your taste.  This afghan would be great to have out during the holidays and is easy to snuggle up with when the weather turns cold!

A Cozy Mile a Minute Throw

Materials:

  • Red Heart With Love 4-ply yarn (7 oz./390 yds./198g per skein)
  •      4 skeins #1303 aran
  •      2 skeins #1909 holly berry
  • G/6/4.0mm, H/8/5.0mm crochet hooks or size needed for gauge
  • Tapestry Needle


FINISHED SIZE:  51” x 57”
GAUGE: 

  • With H hook   4 rows = 3”
  • dc, 4 shells, dc  = 5 ¼”
  • dc, V St, Shell, V St, Shell, V St, dc = 5 ¼”

                                       
SPECIAL STITCHES:

  • V St: dc, ch 1, dc in same sp
  • Shell: 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in same sp


     
Instructions:    
STRIP ONE  (make 3)

  1. Row 1:  With anan and H hook ch 21, Shell in 6th ch from hook, *skip 3 ch, Shell in next ch, rep from * across, dc in last ch, ch 3 and turn.  (4 shells)
     
  2. Row 2:  Shell in each ch 1 sp of Shell across, dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  3. Rows 3 – 72:  Rep Row 2.  Fasten off after last row.

EDGING OF STRIP ONE

  1. Rnd 1:  With holly berry and H hook work along top edge (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in first dc of upper right corner,*ch 1, 2 dc in ch 1 sp of Shell, ch 1, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc, rep from * across ending ch 1, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in last dc.
     
  2. Work along side edge *ch 1, 2 dc in dc, rep from * across ending ch 1, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in bottom turning ch.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge *ch 1, 2 dc in ch below Shell, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 2 dc in next ch, rep from * across ending ch 1, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in last ch.
     
  4. Work along side edge *ch 1, 2 dc in dc, rep from * across ending ch 1, join to beg dc and fasten off.
     
  5. Rnd 2:  With aran and H hook work along top edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in upper right ch 3 corner sp, skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, *skip ch and 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, rep from * across, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch 3 corner sp.
     
  6. Work along side edge skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, *skip ch and 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, rep from * across, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner ch 3 sp.
     
  7. Work along bottom edge as for  top edge.
     
  8. Work along side edge as for opposite side edge, join to beg sc and fasten off.
     
  9. Rnd 3:  With holly berry and H hook sc in upper right corner ch 3 sp, *ch 2, sc in next ch 3 sp, rep from * around entire strip, join to beg sc and fasten off.

 

STRIP TWO  (make 3)

  1. Row 1:  With aran and H hook ch 19, V St in 5th ch from hook, skip 2 ch, Shell in next ch, skip 2 ch, V St in next ch, skip 2 ch, Shell in next ch, skip 2 ch, V St in next ch, dc in last ch, ch 3 and turn.
     
  2. Row 2: *Shell in ch 1 sp of V St, V St in ch 1 sp of Shell, rep from * across, dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  3. Row 3: *V St in ch 1 sp of Shell, Shell in ch 1 sp of V St, rep from * across, dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
     
  4. Rows 4 – 72: Rep Rows 2 and 3.  Fasten off after last row.


EDGING OF STRIP TWO

  1. Rnd 1: With holly berry work and H hook along top edge (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in first dc of upper right corner, *ch 1, 2 dc in ch 1 sp of Shell, ch 1, skip 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip ch 1 and dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * across ending ch 1, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in last dc.
     
  2. Work along side edge *ch 1, 2 dc in dc, rep from * across ending ch 1, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in bottom turning ch.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge, ch 1, skip ch below V St, 2 dc in next ch, ch 1, 2 dc in ch below Shell, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 2 dc in next ch, ch 1, skip ch below V St, 2 dc in next ch, ch 1, 2 dc in ch below Shell, ch 1 skip 1 ch, 2 dc in next ch, ch 1, 2 dc in ch below V St, ending ch 1, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in last ch.
     
  4. Work along side edge *ch 1, 2 dc in dc, rep from * across, ending ch 1, join to beg dc and fasten off.
     
  5. Rnd 2:  With aran and H hook work along top edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in upper right ch 3 corner sp, skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, *skip ch and 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, rep from * across, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch 3 corner sp.
     
  6. Work along side edge skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, *skip ch and 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next dc, rep from * across, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner ch 3 sp.
     
  7. Work along bottom edge as for  top edge.
     
  8. Work along side edge as for opposite side edge, join to beg sc and fasten off.
     
  9. Rnd 3:  With holly berry and H hook sc in upper right corner ch 3 sp, *ch 2, sc in next ch 3 sp, rep from * around entire strip, join to beg sc and fasten off.

     

JOINING OF STRIPS

  1. With holly berry join 2 strips together starting at scs below top corner ch 3 sp, whipstitch only the 2 scs together down the strip ending at 2 scs above the bottom ch 3 corner sp, working in reverse whipstitch over the same joined scs which will form an X. 
     
  2. Join strips as follows:  Strip One, Strip Two, Strip One, Strip Two, Strip One, Strip Two

EDGING OF THROW

  1. With holly berry and G hook work along top edge (sc, ch 2, 2 dc) in upper right corner ch 3 sp, *(sc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each ch 2 sp across strip, sc in joining of strips, rep from * across.
     
  2. Work along side edge (sc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each ch 2 sp.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge as for top.
     
  4. Work along side edge as for opposite side edge, join to beg sc and fasten off.
