Baby Shells and Ribbon Afghan

Pastel yarn and ribbon details make this baby shells and ribbon afghan, along with the matching tissue box cover, great gifts for a new baby. This crochet afghan pattern features interconnected shell rows in pink, baby blue, and white.

Baby Shells and Ribbon Afghan

Materials:

  • 415 yds. Pale Blue Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 415 yds. Lily Pink Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 525 yds. White Red Heart 4-ply yarn
  • 1 yd. each blue and pink 1/8” wide nylon ribbon
  • G hook or size needed for guage
     

Instructions:

GUAGE: sc, Shell, sc, Shell, sc – 3 ½” 6 rows – 3 ½”

STITCHES USED: Chain (ch), Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Slip Stitch (sl st) Special Stitch: Shell – 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc

  1. Row 1 – With blue ch 136, dc in 4th ch from hook, *skip 2 ch, sc in next ch, skip 2 ch, Shell in next ch, rep from * across ending 2 dc in last ch, fasten off and turn. (2l Shells)
     
  2. Row 2 – With pink sc in first dc, *Shell in sc, sc in ch 2 of Shell, rep from * across ending sc in top of turning ch, fasten off and turn.
     
  3. Row 3 – With white sl st in sc, ch 2, dc in same sp, *sc in ch 2 sp of Shell, Shell in sc, rep from * across ending 2 dc in last sc, fasten off and turn.

Work Rows 2 and 3 repeating pattern: blue, pink, white, blue, pink, white for a total of 65 rows ending with pink, fasten off and do not turn. 

EDGING:

With white working along top edge Shell in corner dc, sc in next dc, *Shell in sc, sc in ch 2 sp of Shell, rep from * across ending Shell in last sc, sc in dc, Shell in last corner dc, working along side edge *sl st in dc, Shell in st after sc, rep from * across ending Shell in corner dc, working along bottom edge sc in next dc, *Shell in ch below sc, sc in ch below Shell, rep from * across ending Shell in last corner dc, working along opposite side edge *sl st in dc, Shell in st before 2 dc, rep from * across, join to beg and fasten off.

 

FINISHING: Make 1 bow in each corner in either blue or pink (2 blue and 2 pink).
