Baby Kisses Afghan

Babies will love cuddling up with this Baby Kisses Afghan from Roseanna Beck.  This intermediate baby throw makes a great gift for a little one, and the colors make it perfect for a little girl or boy.  These crochet afghan instructions are easy to follow, so this pattern is great for beginners.

Materials:
Size:   41” x 48”

  • Red Heart Classic 4-ply worsted weight yarn – 3.5 oz/190 yds (2 skeins) #719 lily pink
  • Red Heart Classic 4-ply worsted weight yarn – 3.5 oz/190 yds (2 skeins) #815 pale blue
  • Red Heart Classic 4-ply worsted weight yarn – 3.5 oz/190 yds (2 skeins) #261 maize
  • Red Heart Classic 4-ply worsted weight yarn – 3.5 oz/190 yds (2 skeins) #001 white
  • Red Heart Super Saver 4-ply worsted weight yarn – 5 oz/244 yds (3 skeins) #345 baby print
  • Crochet hook size G/6 (4.50 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge

Notes:

  • Gauge:  8 dc = 2”; 6 rows = 4”
  • V St – work dc, ch 1, dc in same st
  • Shell – work 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in same st
  • Small Scallop (Sm Sc) – work sl st, ch 2, 2 dc in same sp

 

Instructions:

Blanket

  1. Row 1:  With G hook and pink ch 125, dc in 4th ch from hook, work 1 dc in each of next 4 ch, 3 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of next 6 ch, *skip 1 dc, V St in next ch, skip 2 ch, Shell in next ch, skip 2 ch, V St in next ch, skip 1 ch, work 1 dc in each of next 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of next 6 ch, repeat from * across 4 more times.
     
  2. Row 2:  Ch 3 and turn, skip 1 dc, work 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 3 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, *V St in ch 1 sp of V St, Shell in ch 1 sp of Shell, V St in ch 1 sp of V St, skip 1 dc work 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, 3 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, rep from * across ending skip 1 dc, dc in last dc.
     
  3. Row 3:  Repeat Row 2.
     
  4. Row 4:  Repeat Row 2, fasten off and turn.
     
  5. Row 5:  Join baby print with a sl st in first dc, ch 2, skip 1 dc, work 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, continue with Row 2.

Color Scheme:  (70  rows):  4 rows pink, 2 rows baby print, 4 rows blue, 2 rows baby print, 4 rows maize, 2 rows baby print, 4 rows white, 2 rows baby print. (Repeat 2 times) 4 rows pink, 2 rows baby print, 4 rows blue, 2 rows baby print, 4 rows maize, 2 rows baby print, 4 rows white


Edging

  1. Work along top edge with G hook and baby print, Sm Sc in upper right corner dc, skip 1 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, skip 2 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, skip 1 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, skip 2 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, skip 2 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, Sm Sc in ch 1 sp of V St, Shell, V St, **skip 2 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, *skip 2 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, rep from * 3 more times, Sm Sc in ch 1 sp of V St, Shell, V St, rep from ** across ending Sm Sc in V St, Shell, V St, skip 2 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, rep from *2 more times, skip 1 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, skip 2 dc, Sm Sc in next dc, Sm Sc in last dc.
     
  2. Work along side edge (sl st, ch 3, dc) in sp between rows ending Sm Sc in first ch of bottom edge.
     
  3. Work along bottom edge skip 1 ch, Sm Sc in next ch,*skip 2 ch, Sm Sc in next ch, rep from *2 more times, Sm Sc in ch below V St, Shell, V St, **skip 1 ch, Sm Sc in next ch, *skip 2 ch, Sm Sc in next ch, rep from *3 more times, Sm Sc in ch below V St, Shell, V st, rep from ** across ending Sm Sc in ch below V St, Shell, V St, skip 1 ch, Sm Sc in next ch, *skip 2 ch, Sm Sc in next ch, rep from *2 more times, Sm Sc in last ch.
     
  4. Work along side edge (sl st, ch 3, dc) in sp between rows, join to beg and fasten off.
