Eco Friendly Bee Noisemaker

By:

Eco-friendly craft ideas don't get much cuter than this. Make an Eco-Friendly Bee Noisemaker from Heidi Borchers using a recycled cardboard tube - it's a simple and fun way to go green. This family-friendly project is perfect for a hot summer afternoon.

Materials:

  • Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue
  • Cardboard tubes (gift wrap papr, toilet tissue, paper towel)
  • Scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Blue painters masking tape
  • Toothpick (to apply glue)
  • Bandanas (yellow print, black print)
  • 1/4″ dowel stick (12″ long)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Barley (or rice) for noisemaker
  • Wood bead – large for head (to cover end of tube)
  • Acrylic paint – yellow
  • Black rhinestones (2 for eyes)
  • Black permanent marking pen – fine tip

Instructions:

  1. The size of your bumble bee will depend on what size cardboard tube you use for the body. For this project, I used a gift wrap cardboard tube which is smaller than a paper towel roll.

  2. To create the tail end of the bumble bee, snip about 3/4″ into one end of tube at about 1/4″ intervals.

  7. Sharpen tip of dowel stick with pencil sharpener. Glue strips of bandana around dowel stick. Make small slit into side of body with craft knife. Dip sharpened end of dowel into glue and press into slit. Let glue dry.
