How Do I Sew Boxer Shorts?

Sewing boxer shorts is a great craft for a beginner. It's a small enough project that it requires little material, which in turn makes a pretty thrifty wearable craft. You can find free sewing craft patterns online or in stores. Sometimes the patterns will allow you to use the same pattern using different fabric which would be great so you can sew a variety of boxer shorts. Back in the day boxers were just for men, but that's not the case anymore. Many more women are wearing boxer shorts as their pajamas.

Sewing your own boxer is much better than buying them from the store. If you make your own, or as a gift, you are able to choose the fabric, the pattern and even add some embellishements if you wish. All the things you can't get in the store, you can get in your "home sewing lab."

In order to make your boxers you need elastic tape, fabric, pins and cotton or stretch thread. The first thing you need to figure out is who you are making the boxers for so you can get waist measurements, with that said, then you need to figure out how much material and elastic you'll need. If you want to make the open flap in the front, make sure you take that into consideration when getting your materials.

Steps to a Great Boxer Short Free Sewing Pattern:

1. Cut your fabric according to pattern. Make sure to allow extra room for seams.
    
2. Pin fabric in place if desired, wrong side facing out.
    
3. Begin sewing at the waistband and work down the hip on both sides.
    
4. Sew the inside leg.
    
5. Hem the legs.
    
6. Sew the elastic tape inside the waistband with the stretch thread, overlapping the fabric and sewing casing to cover it.

Ball recently released the Wide Mouth Contemporary Styled Glass Preserving Jars.



Using the new little Half Pint size, make a super sweet and easy pincushion or “treasure jar” for Mom.

Materials:

• Fabric Scrap of your choice
• Jar with lid and band
• Cotton balls or fiberfill
• Card Stock
• Glue gun, not pictured
  
  

Steps:

1. Using the lid of the jar, cut out a circle of the same size from the card stock
   
   
    
2. Using the lid of the jar, trace around it on the wrong side of your fabric. Increase that circle’s radius about 1” and cut out the larger circle.
   
   
   
   
    
3. Layer the fabric, cotton balls, and lid then place the “sandwich” inside the band.
   
   
   
   
    
4. Press the lid down so that the cotton balls and fabric form the pincushion on the opposite side of the band. Check to see if you need to move the fabric to avoid creases. Make any necessary adjustments and then fold in the fabric and hot glue it to the underside of the lid.
   
   
   
   
    
5. Trim away any excess fabric and hot glue the cardstock over the fabric edges.
   
   
    
6. Line the band with a small bead of glue and insert the pincushion into it, pressing firmly. Add the lid to the jar and YOU HAVE A NEW PINCUSHION!

Other ideas and suggestions: Monogram the top and use it as a “treasure jar”. Add ribbon, paint, and other embellishments to the band to give it even more personality.
