Knit Snowman

Knit a cute little snowman complete with red hat for the holidays. This snowman knitting pattern from Lily Sugar n' Cream is easy and a thrifty way to decorate. Kids will love helping to stuff this snowman.

Knit Snowman

 

 Materials:

  • Yarn: Lily® Sugar’n Cream (70.9 g / 2.5 oz)
    Main Color (MC): #00001 (White) 1 ball
    Contrast A: #00095 (Red) 1 ball
  • Knitting Needles: Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stuffing
  • 2 chenille stems
  • Buttons

Size: Approx 9 ins [23 cm] tall stuffed, excluding Hat.

Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

 

Instructions:

Body: With MC, cast on 9 sts.
1st and 2nd rows: *K1. Inc 1 st in next st. Rep from * to last st. K1. 19 sts after 2nd row.
3rd row: Inc 1 st in each st to end of row. 38 sts.
4th row: *K1. Inc 1 st in next st. Rep from * to end of row. 57 sts.
    Proceed in stocking st for 7 ins [18 cm].

Head:
Next row: *K2. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 43 sts. Place marker at each end of last row.
**Beg with a purl row, cont even in stocking st for 4 ins [10 cm].
Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 22 sts.
Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts and draw up firmly. Fasten securely.** Sew back seam, stuffing as you sew.

Hat: With A, cast on 43 sts.
Knit 1 row. Rep from ** to ** as given above. Sew back seam.

Finishing
Weave yarn along marked row. Pull to gather slightly for Neck and fasten securely. Sew Hat to Head. Sew on black button for eyes and mouth. Sew on orange button for nose. Fold chenille stems in half and twist to form arms. Push ends into Body as shown in picture.
