Crochet 3 Wise Men

The Three Wise Men are iconic Christmas characters, and this stunning and spirted Christmas crochet pattern is a great one for those who love crafting for the holidays.  With a selection of sparkly yarn, you can create your own trio of Wise Men, great for placing under your Christmas tree or turning into ornaments to hang on the tree.  You can even embellish these patterns slightly to create a full nativity scene!

Crochet 3 Wise Men

Materials:

  • 1 spool Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid in Purple (012)
  • 1 spool Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid in Copper (021)
  • 1 spool Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid in Copper Cord (021C)
  • 1 spool Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid in Copper Hi Lustre (021HL)
  • 1 spool Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid in Amethyst (026)

  • Size B and C Crochet Hook
  • Sewing thread and needle
  • 6-inch chenille stick

Wise Man with Blue Coat

  • 3 (10m) spools of Kreinik Medium (#16) Braid in Wedgewood Blue (622)
  • 1 (10m) spool of Kreinik Medium (#16) Braid in Sky Blue (014)
  • 1 (10m) spool of Kreinik Medium (#16) Braid in Beige (013)
  • 1 (10m) spool of Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid in Copper Hi Lustre 021HL)
  • Small amount of cotton or fiberfill
  • Size B and C Crochet Hook
  • Sewing thread and needle
  • 6-inch chenille stick
  • Assorted charms or beads (optional)

 

Instructions:
Finished size: 4 1/4 inches tall

Wise Man With Striped Coat

Head

  1. Using color 021 ch 4, join with sl st to form ring.
     
  2. Rnd 1: 3ch, 9dc in ring, (10dc) join.
     
  3. Rnd 2: 3ch, *2dc in next st, dc in next st; repeat from * around (15dc), join.
     
  4. Rnd 3-4: Ch3, dc in each dc around, join. Stuff head with cotton.
     
  5. Rnd 5: Ch1, (skip 1 sc, sc in next sc) 7 times; join.
     
  6. Rnd 6-7: Ch2, 2hdc in each st; join. Fasten off.

Robe

  1. Rnd 8: Fasten on color 051, working in opposite direction from previous row, ch 1, * sc in next st, 2sc in next st; repeat from * around; join. (Do not cut threads between rows.)
     
  2. Rnd 9: Fasten on color 1223, ch 1, *sc in next st, ch1, sk next sc; repeat from * around; join.
     
  3. Rnd 10: Fasten on color 012, 3ch, 1 dc in next ch sp (counts as dc2tog), *1ch, dc2tog inserting hook into same sp as previous st for first leg and into next sp for 2nd leg; repeat from * around; join.
     
  4. Rnd 11: Fasten on color 026, ch1, sc in first st, *sc in next sp, ch1, sk next cluster; rep from * around; join.
     
  5. Rnd 12: Fasten on color 093, (ch1, dc in each ch sp) around; join.
     
  6. Repeat pattern of stripes for 2 3/4 inches, ending with color 093.
     
  7. Last row: Using color 051, Ch2, *hdc in first sp, 2hdc in next sp, repeat from * around. Fasten off.

Sleeve (make 2)

  1. Using color 012, ch8, sl st to make a circle.
     
  2. Rnd 1: Ch3, *sc in first ch, dc in next; repeat around; join.
     
  3. Alternating colors 026, 093, and 1223, repeat stitch pattern of Rnd 1 for 1 3/4 inches.
     
  4. Last Row: Using 051, hdc in each st, fasten off.

Assemble

  1. Fold back 1/2-inch of each end of chenille stitck, pass through robe at shoulders and cover withsleeves. Sew sleeves to robe; sew headpiece to head. If desired, make necklace from thread and a bead or use a charm as a ‘gift.’

 

Wise Man with Green Coat

Head

  1. Using color 021 and B hook, ch 4, join with sl st to form ring.
     
  2. Rnd 1: Ch3, 9dc in ring, (10dc) join in top of first ch3.
     
  3. Rnd 2: Ch3, *2dc in next st, dc in next st; repeat from * around (15dc), join.
     
  4. Rnd 3: Ch2, pull up loop in next dc, yo and pull thru two loops on hook, yo and pull through all loops on hook; join. Stuff head with cotton.
     
  5. Rnd 4-5: Ch2, 2hdc in each st; join. Cut thread.

Robe

  1. Using color 850 and C hook, ch 17, turn.
     
  2. Row 1: Sk 2 ch, *hdc in next ch, 2hdc in next ch; repeat from * across, turn.
     
  3. Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn.
     
  4. Repeat Row 2 for 3 inches, increasing 1 st on ea row; fasten off.
     
  5. Attach color 221, ch 1, sc around edge of robe, placing 3 sts in each corner; fasten off.

Insert

  1. Using color 850, ch 5.
     
  2. Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 2hdc in each ch across; turn.
     
  3. Rwo 2: Ch2, hdc in each st across, increasing 1 st every other row for 2 1/2-inches; fasten off.

Sleeves (make 2)

  1. Ch8; join to form ring.
     
  2. Rnd 1: 8 hdc in ring, join.
     
  3. Rnd 2: Ch2, hdc in ea st; join.
     
  4. Repeat Row 2 for 1 1/2-inches; fasten off.
     
  5. Band: Join color 221; ch1, sc in ea st; fasten off.

Hand (make 2)

  1. Using color 021, ch4, join to form ring.
     
  2. Rnd 1-3: Ch2, 4hdc in ring, join. Fasten off.

Crown

  1. With color 221, ch15, sl st in first ch to form ring.
     
  2. Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in first st, dc in next, 3tr in next, dc in next, sc in each remaining st to end; join, fasten off.

Headpiece

  1. Using color 850, ch 8.
     
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, dc in next, tr in next, dc in next, sc in next 2 sts, turn.
     
  3. Row 2: Ch1, sc in next 2sts, dc in nest, tr in next, dc in next, sc in next 2 sts, turn.
     
  4. Row 3-6: Ch3, dc in eash st, turn. Fasten off.

Assemble

  1. Sew insert under robe and sew robe to neck edge. Fold back 1/2-inch of each end of chenille stick, pass through robe at shoulders and cover with sleeves. Sew sleeves to robe; sew headpiece to head, and sew crown to headpiece. If desired, make necklace from thread and a bead or use charm as a ‘gift.’

 

Wise Man with Blue Coat

Head

  1. Using color 021 and B hook, ch 4, join with sl st to form ring.
     
  2. Rnd 1: Ch3, 9dc in ring, (10dc) join in top of first ch3.
     
  3. Rnd 2: Ch3, *2dc in next st, dc in next st; repeat from * around (15dc), join.
     
  4. Rnd 3: Ch3, dc in each st; join.
     
  5. Rnd 4: Ch2, *pull up loop in next dc, yo and pull thru two loops on hook, yo and pull through all loops on hook; repeat from * around; join. Stuff head with cotton.
     
  6. Rnd 5-6: Ch2, 2hdc in each st; join. Cut thread.

Robe

  1. Using color 622 and C hook, ch 17, turn.
     
  2. Rnd 1: Sk 2 ch, *hdc in next ch, 2hdc in next ch; repeat from * across, turn.
     
  3. Rnd 2: Ch2, hdc in each st across, turn.
     
  4. Repeat Row 2 for 3 inches, increasing 1 st on each row; fasten off.
     
  5. Attach color 014, ch1, sc around robe, placing 3 sts in each corner; fasten off.

Sleeves (make 2)

  1. Using color 622, ch8; join to form ring.
     
  2. Rnd 1: Ch2, 7 hdc in ring, join.
     
  3. Rnd 2: Ch2, hdc in ea st; join.
     
  4. Repeat Row 2 for 1 1/2 inches; fasten off.

Band

  1. Join color 014; ch 1, sc in ea st; fasten off.

Crown

  1. With color 013, ch 15, sl st in first ch to form ring.
     
  2. Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in first ch , dc in next, 3tr in next, dc in next, sc in each remaining st to end; join, fasten off.

Headpiece

  1. Using color 622, ch 8.
     
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, dc in next, tr in next, dc in next, sc in next 2 sts, turn.
     
  3. Row 2: Ch1, sc in next 2sts, dc in next, tr in next, dc in next, sc in next 2 sts, turn.
     
  4. Row 3-6: Ch3, dc in each st, turn. Fasten off.

Assemble

  1. Fold back 1/2-inch of each end of chenille stick, pass through robe at shoulders and cover with sleeves. Sew sleeves to robe; sew headpiece to head, and sew crown to headpiece. If desired, make necklace from thread and a bead or use charm as a gift.
