Unique birthday cards are hard to come by nowadays.  If you want something beautiful and elegant, try making this Victorian Fabric Greeting Card from Lynda Heines.  You could also give this card for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day.

 Victorian Fabric Greeting Card

Materials:

  • 2 5x8" pieces of dyed fabric
  • 2 5x8" pieces of flannel
  • Modge Podge
  • Rose or flower, cut from fabric
  • Batting
  • Lace trim
  • Binding
  • Printable Fabric
  • Distress Spray
  • Sewing pins

Instructions:

  1. Start with some dyed fabric and cut it into two 5 x 8 pieces, making the front and back of the card. For batting, use flannel--also cut 5 x 8.

  2. Use Modge Podge to glue the flannel to the fabric.

  3. Now it’s time to decorate the two sides of the card. Cut a couple roses from another fabric (or print roses on printable fabric), adding batting if desired.  Do some free motion stitching to bind the rose to the batting. Sew or glue to card.

  4. Add lace to edges of card.

  5. Print name and message on fabric and cut and sew (or glue) to the card.

  6. Zig zag stitch around the complete outside of the sides of the card. To put them together, I layer wrong sides together, straight stitch around the complete card and add lace. You can also sew a straight stitch down the center of the card, making it easier to fold.

  7. Add several drops to water to Distress Ink and spray on the lace. We used deli tissue to prevent ink from spraying over the complete card.

  8. And here is the finished card.
