India Inspired Bedside Dresser

By:

My 5 year old neighbor Victoria was mesmerized by this side table so I guess I already know where it will be ending up after this book is finished. Nothing better than some jewels to liven up an otherwise drab side table for a girl’s room, right! This technique is really simple and can fancy up any plain surface. Try it on mirrors or even an entire dresser. With plain walls and bedding your India inspired furniture can be the focal point of the room.

India Inspired Table

Materials:

  • Purple spray paint *I used Krylon Fusion
  • Metallic gold spray paint
  • Household Goop Glue
  • Toothpicks
  • Lace fabric
  • Gems in different colors

Instructions:

  1. Remove all of the hardware from your dresser and wipe clean. Sand it a little bit first if you have to.

  2. Spray paint (or paint) your entire dresser. Give it several coats.

    Spray Paint

  3. When dry, place the lace on top of each surface and lightly spray over it with the metallic gold spray paint to get the relief of the lace.

    Lace Pattern

  4. Continue doing this all over the entire side table.

  5. When you’ve completed the table, play with your gems to figure out where they will be glued. It’s pretty easy since most lace has a repeat pattern.

Absolutely stunning! I'd heard of lace for a stencil, but this is the first time I've seen an entire project actually done this way. I'm doing this!

M niece is a sand and water girl. 8yers old I didthe blue color base ,and a piece of lace with sail boats on it. Sprayed this white paint. Then decorated with sand dollars and star fish, used two pieces of drift wood for the dresser handles. It looked really cool!!!!! Thanks a lot for the idea.

Mark Montano is freakin' awesome!!! I love his books, he has such fabulous & creative ideas!!! He really makes you look at dollar store items in a whole new light :)

this is my next project for my daughters room. She is really into skull and cross bone motifs sooo Im thinking I may need to cut out a lacy pattern with that included to make it work,...I will post pics some day when I get it done
